Well, I made it through Basic. Sorry for not writing to those I said I would, but we were banned from writing to other service members and they checked. I'm currently at Fort Gordon, GA awaiting for my Sat. Com. classes to begin. Fun fun. So, can anyone give me an update on what's happened in the Buell arena? What were the new models released? I wish I could have my bike up here now. I'm dying to get it back. Feed me some info peeps. As soon as I get some time I'll give you all a good rundown on what happened at Basic, or you can just as me and I'll give it to you as best I can. |

hey ryan, glad to hear you made it through. mostly the changes for this year consisted of bodywork colors and such. no real big mechanical stuff. you missed a good hot chicks on buells thread, but it pulled a disappearing act... lol. other than that lot of the same. i am thinking you missed out on the xb exhaust shootout that we did in waterloo at silver eagle with a bunch of the guys. rounded up alot of onfo and had a lot of fun. you will have to look at american sportbikes site and look for the shootout results. |

Ah... basic training. I hear they are "rolling" shirts, is this true? And I also hear that you have "timeout" cards? If the above is true they might as well do away with the initial training and just give you a briefing at MEPS and then send you to tech school. Congrats by the way. |

Great news! Congrats on making it through basic - no matter what people say about it being too easy, someone else said that about their basic training when they went through. Luckily the Army is able to evolve through time, or else we'd be living in some pretty horrible conditions! Keep us apprised of your situation. Have fun at Gordon - I just sold my house there. Great area... |

Sorry for the delay in responses. I'm restricted to using computers at the IET center or education center. No personal PC or laptops allowed. Hey, does anyone have a link to the shoot out they could post for me? I have limited time for searching. What is "rolling shirts"? No, there were no stress cards. You just dealt with it. As for Fort Gordon, well, I can report that I passed my PT test today and am now in a platoon and not a fobbit (FOB = Field operating base. We had to do that the first week we got here. 1 week) Let the fun begin. |

Congratulations soldier. rolling t-shirts, yes we do that, well if its your sop you do, its my sop(standard operating procedure) looks neat and saves space in the ruck. Yeah some people have it easy these days, it all depends on where you go. Ft. Benning things sucked, but all of us there were infantry. |

Glad to hear you made it thru basic. The rest is easy as far as training goes. Did you have to many pushups? |

Ah yes Ft Benning. It definitly sucked in '81 I would not be at all suprised if it still did. Best thing about it was jump school and that's just because I liked jumping out of airplanes, heck I couldn't hardly wait to get out of the C123. I thought the thing was going to fall out of the sky it rattled so bad. |

Congratulations, glad to have you back! So they got rid of the stress cards? I couldn't believe it the first time I heard of those while stationed @ Ft. Leonardwood. - Ex 91G/X No such thing as a stress card in combat. If you need one you shouldn't be in the service in the first place. Is basic still co-ed? We had to drop every time female platoons came our way. -Ras |

crashm1, Yes Ft. Benning still sucks of July,1 05-Oct,21 05 I was in Delta 2/58 how about yourself. About the stress cards, a guy in my plt. his sister was at ft. jackson the same time we were at Ft. Benning and she had stress cards. |

Dude that was 25 years ago. After basic I was in the 2nd/75th Ranger Batt and C co 4th/327th infantry in Fort Richardson, AK. C company in the three battlions stationed in AK at the time were airborne and the rest were leg infantry. The only thing left from those days is a proficiency in the operation of most firearms and really rusty orienteering skills and maybe a PT tshirt. Oh and my DD214. |

Ah, yes, we do roll t-shirts. No stress cards to report here. We just dealt with it. The platoon itself was co-ed. Females and males mixed for training. Makes for some interesting times. Oh, I need to know how I can let Fuell know my address changed. I want to start receiving my Fuell mag here. Anyone have an answer? Also, I'll be going into weapons emeging soon, basically you carry a weapon (M16) around with you all day. So I may not be able to post much during that. I'll still be around though. |

Yes, don't forget to carry your weapon with you at all times... We had an officer leave his weapon in the field during EFMB in Frankfurt. They made all of us tie a string from the muzzle to our LBE. Medical officers are pretty 8 up (not all of them, but most of them). -Ras |

I went thru AIT at Ft. Benning in Oct/Nov of 1960, Then jump school at Ft. Bragg, the last class of 1960. Ah, to hear the words of the jumps school instructors again, "266 get ten". |

Ahhhh, Ras, those LBE's suck in the heat here and at Jackson. You want to get warm? Just put one on with the plates in. Sucker will keep you really warm in the winter I bet. |

cataract2, you mean an IBA? LBE is the peice of TA50 that has your canteen's, amo pouches, and 1st aid pouch. But yeah those IBA's suck I always have a sweat spot in the outline of my IBA.lol, sucks but will save my life some day. |

Is that what they're called now? I know the Load Bearing Equipment harness has changed over the past few years especially with all the new toy's & armor 'yall get to carry around. How'd all that sand get into the woods @ Ft Jackson? Getting sand off our gear became a daily ritual. What is an IBA? |

An IBA is your "bullet proof" vest The LBE is now obsolete other than in bct. Now we have mollie gear, if I could figure out how to put pictures on here I would take a picture for you |

I think I've seen it on U.S. Cavalry catalogs. Like this:

The new armor actually is pretty comfortable, compared to the older stuff... and it doesn't look quite as bad... nor does it interfere with range of motion as it once did. |

Has the MOPP gear improved any? Right before I got out they upgrade from the M17 masks to the soft polyurethane molded ones with the side canister. I can't remember the nomenclature for it though. I always thought there's no surviving and NBC attack. But the gear was cool. The old chem suits are great in the winter. I'd re-up yesterday but I don't have my family's approval. I'm proud of all our service members, without 'yall who knows what kind of country this would be - not one I'd care to be part of. Be safe and alert out there (regardless of where CONUS/OCONUS), take care of each other. -Ras |

Sorry for the delay. Had to carry weapons around for a week and couldn't get to a computer. Yeah, meant IBA. Not that the LBE's were any better. For the NBC all we had to use was the mask. That chamber suuuuuuuuuuucked. |

Just the mask? Wow, even I got to wear full gear... I had snot hanging nearly to the ground... my eyes weren't too bad though. No, haven't seen the liquid armor, all I get to mess with is the stuff going downrange. This is what I have...
me showing someone how to wear properly and display badges. This is what we call the "training gear" if you are getting deployed you get issued the new equipment, which is much nicer. No charcoal dust in the new stuff, has small "bb" type charcoal sewn into it throughout the suit. Very nice. |

Bcordb3: Went through jump school at Ft. Campbell about the same time as you, shortly before they shut it down. I don't remember any stress cards. Just being asked 100 times a day if I wanted to quit. You? |
