Anyone ever tried one of these or similar? They have a built in SD drive and run on 4 AAA batteries. I realize max resolution is 640x480 and only 15fps. However, looks like something that could be fun to play with and can be had for less than $120 w/ a 1GB SD card.

Is that the Tony Hawks cam? It (the Hawks cam), despite the size of the care you put in it, will only record 15 minutes of video at a time. Boo Hiss. |

No, it's not the Tony Hawk. I actually looked at that, but the 15 minute limit nixed the deal. This one is made by Oregon Scientific. Supposedly, it will record until memory is full. The biggest SD card it will recognize is 1GB, but that should make around an hour of video. By the way, I ordered one. I'll post my review after receiving it. the videos are a little jittery but good for the price . if it falls of the bike it's no great loss. time i think is closer to 40 min. with best picture quality. i strapped mine to the lower part of the upper fork tube closer to the ground. i'm trying to find a spot for rearward pictures but have'nt invested enough time to make a mount. i want to get the rear suspension in the picture. |

Fed, why not a passenger peg mount? Even if you don't normally run them it's a simple 2 bolt install. |

Aeholton- post the question over on the 3%'ers Storm Fronts page and see what some folks say. Black_Sunshine has a set-up that works very well. |

Aeholton.....This is a better camera and cheaper as well http://cgi.ebay.com/Sony-480-line-Color-CCD-Bullet-Cam-Helmet-Camera-Kit-NT_W0QQitemZ330008417288QQihZ014QQcategoryZ23780QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem. The guy that sells these is very nice and his company is only a few miles from my house. I have it attached to my helmet with velcro on the side. Great quality video and light. Even has a microphone. Here is the Ebay link:
Here is some video I took chasing Odie: http://www.incorrect.org/videos/Black_sunshine%20and%20Odie.wmv Me chasing Glitch and New12r: http://www.incorrect.org/videos/Wolf%20Pen%20Gap.wmv The quality isn't represented well because it is compressed for the host website. When I burned to DVD it looks killer on my LCD TV. |

That is great quality. That bullet camera requires a DVR or camcorder to hook up to. I was just looking for cheap all-in-one type device. However, I believe I will move up to one of these type in the future. Just wanted to get started having some fun making digital video recordings. I was thinking I could attach the little cheap one to my dog and get some cool little canine point of view videos too. Can't do that with the 2 piece solution. |

Sure you could! You use a leash right? Wire that dog up. The dog holds the camera and you hold the recorder. |

Aeholton....Yeah..you need a DVR to capture the image onto tape. I picked up a Sony HC41 for $250 on Ebay as well. Can't beat the quality. I believe you are going to be disappointed with the all in one camera quality of picture and capacity. The dog idea would be a neat vid. |

OK, I received the camera and SD card today and made a couple of videos. The sun was fairly low in the sky, but I'm pretty pleased with the result. I would like to post one of the short ones, but it is like 29MB. I tried uploading it to youtube.com, but it didn't look very good on the site. It washed out the video and it had a big blotch in the center that stayed there through out, so I deleted it. Anyone know somewhere I can upload it to for free? |

Not bad, it is a little slow to adjust for light changes and it's a little choppy, but you expected that. The odd thing is the tendency to stretch and shrink the images, especially obvious with the truck. |

If you are referring the almost "rubbery" effect, I believe it is from having the camera mounted on the front right turn signal. It's almost like holding a pencil at the end and moving up and down making it appear like it is bending. I'm going to try mounting it somewhere on the handlebars today and see if it helps. The only other complaint is download time. It is a USB 1.1 (not 2.0) interface and it takes a while to dump into the PC. |

Adrian, Doe the XB have the flat brace between the fork tubes above the fender? That was something on the M2 that seem to be a good place for a camera mounting to me although I never got around to it. A wind sock or better wind sock on the mike will take all that crackling out of the audio. Now you know that it sounds like to ride without a helmet and un-muted hearing aids. :> Jack |

Aeholton....I've tried to mount it almost everywhere you can on the XB. I always shakes (Damn V-Twin). The best place I found is your helmet. Your head is stable an it points to everywhere you look. Its a good first person point of view with no shakes. |

Will, That makes a lot of sense. And you could even put a mark for the aiming point on your shield too. Jack |

Jack..I put a sharpie mark on the top of the camera and the velcro strip marks the angle. |
