I dunno. If the world does end, I have a bunch of old tires that can be turned into really cool body armor.

Plus, My 1970 Ford Bronco might be one of the few cars around since it still runs a points and condenser. I wonder if an EMP would make that useless, like it would the EFI machines?

All the wars going on?

I'm presuming your talking about the Lebanon issue?

Wars in the middle east have been going on "forever" (exaggerating) and are only becoming more public because the role the media has begun to play in the reporting from the battlefields.

They are redundant, you lob a bomb at me... I launch and airstrike at you... you shoot artillary at me... I find and destroy aforementioned artillary.... cease fire... all is well until someone lobs another bomb.

We're doing the right thing IMO involving lebanon, staying out of it until some peace arrises. The end of the world... I doubt it, just another day in the East.

That is the funniest thing I've read in a while LMAO. I too will form a compound out of logs, make body armor out of television parts, and roam the neighborhood in my refrigerator-door-armored '63 Pontiac Grand Prix trying to scavenge gasoline and collecting feral pets for food.

The Emp from a properly designed nuke airburst would kill your EFI. Dead.

Homebuilt non nuclear ones would have far less range, and likely be built into a rental truck. ( Until 09-01-01 the deadliest killer for terrorists. ) I doubt any islamic group would bother though. The purpose of terror is terror. You would get better news coverage ( the goal of infantile minds ) with a hand grenade attack in a mall.

An emp attack is somewhat likely from a major power ( China, Russia ), but most likely from disgruntled homegrown nuts. I could see anti tax nuts emp-ing IRS headquarters, or anti capitalists emp-ing Wall street. ( though the data storage facilities across the river might be better, see Tom Clancy novels )

Don't sweat the emp.

As far as the mideast goes, try NRO for several opinions. I have my own, & they are mixed. I have long advocated withdrawing 1/2 to 2/3 the U.S. troops in Iraq, through Damascas & Tehran. Qom might be a better choice if you really wanted to speed up WW4. Good thing Rummie is not on my speed dial.

It is obvious to anyone who pays attention that the State of Israel & "liberal western civilization" is under attack by proxy forces of Iran, etc. Who pays the bills? We do. ( Iran writes the checks to Hummas & Hezbajerks, China & Europe buys their oil, & we buy from elsewhere, but it's all fungible stuff )

China is in this up to their neck. Why do you think oil is expensive? China has near doubled world usage, and has a deal with Iran for the black stuff. Who vetos any action in the U.N. to stop despots? China & Russia. That's the vestige of WW3, which we hoped would be over with the fall of the Soviet Union.

Anyone but me notice that when the head nutcase in Iran gives a nice hate speach, the price of oil rises? Don't the idiots in oil futures know he knows that & uses it to get richer? What dopes.

I guess that depends on your definition of a world war...? I can't make a good case in either direction.

i just hope tom cruise is around

Don't you mean Chuck Norris?

Don't the idiots in oil futures know he knows that & uses it to get richer? What dopes.

Those "idiots" are also getting very rich.

Back on topic, the world of Man has been ending a little bit every day since Man began his existence (whenever that was, another argument for another day). Many people tend to think that when Man ceases to be that everything else will somehow come to an end as well. Human beings are incidental to the universe. We're an insignificant burden on an uncaring mistress, whose fickle nature determines whether we live or die each day. War is meaningless when you back up and look at everything.

To change direction just slightly, I believe we should let Israel sink or swim. And while they are at it, they can take care of Iran's nukes like they did Iraq's years ago.

good point Pwnzor, it is very arrogant on the peoples part to beleive that the world ending is the death of ALL creation. The universe is so big and constantly expanding that it seems useless for a supreme being to create humanity and not let it discover the surroundings created with us. (the previous would only appply to someone holding a religious principle of some sort)
Maybe we are just temporary tenenants here like the dionosaurs were and who knows what type of creature will follow next in line.
So as long as I get to keep my Buell and the Pacific COast Highway the rest of the world can be destroyed.
Funny, I asked this same question on Yahoo Answers and all the responses Ive received are so serious yet sorta comical. Gives me the impression that some already have their bags packed for something. And then when I ask the same question over here I get motorcycle humor. Tom Cruise gotta love that one.Too funny, maybe he's the anit-christ.

do any of you think a Snell approved helmet will be sufficient enough for the Earthly disasters to come?

Nothing short of being in the right place at the right moment can save you from fate's destructive powers. Beyond that, having sealed trunks filled with firearms, ammunition, MRE's, gas masks, chemical suits, etc etc etc, can help deal with the aftermath. The name "survival gear" implies that the disaster has already occured, you have somehow perservered it's wrath, and subsequently made your way to wherever your stash is located. A lot of big "if's".

So when I'm SCUBA diving for my dinner in Arizona Bay, I'll think fondly of all the people who didn't make it. That's a joke, I wouldn't waste space by storing SCUBA gear.

As for Tom Cruise, he better hope Chuck Norris doesn't roundhouse-kick Xenu back to Alpha Centauri or wherever he's from.

Any electronics that are properly shielded will survive an EMP. Your home PC is toast. The computer in your car has some shielding so as to be protected from the noise generated by your coil(s), but whether it is sufficient to protect it from EMP...I have no idea.

Best bet, build a Faraday cage around your house.

I hear making a hat out of aluminum foil should help some,.
Why even wonder, when I was a kid it was worring about the russians nuking us, you can look optimistically at the future or pessimistically, and as the old saying goes, IGNORANCE IS BLISS. But really why worry over something completely out of your control that may never happen. I think that its funny(pathetic) though that some religious fanatics actually wish for the end of the world instead of putting effort into making it a better place.

I think Mel Gibson is more qualified than either Cruise or Norris to survive in a post-apocolyptic wasteland. He had a bitchin' Interceptor.

No! to the aluminum hat!

Some MIT kids with time & a well equipped electrical lab tested the 3 basic foil hats. Scull, dunce/cone & paper/boat.
They all Increased the transmission of the freqs the Feds use for secure comm.

You want a basic kit in the car, in case your house burns or flood, tsunami, brush fire, hits your place. A bit of water, & a first aid kit can mean the difference between life & death. A day pack size so you can ride, walk away is best. The kind of troubles in the world today mean you probably just need a little help to get by, at least to a hotel/airport/safe place. Pages could be expended, but there are great books, "Pulling Through" by Dean Ing is a fun read. I wouldn't go militia style survivalist, unless you enjoy it as a hobby.

1 question. If we "...let Israel sink or swim." why would they want to take care of things in a way that is good for us as well as themselves?

Qatar built a motorcycle racing track and they don't bother anyone and are good friends/allies to us. Maybe we should start building motorcycle racing tracks elsewhere in the middle east.
