Last week the California Air Resources Board filed action against DynoJet for the sale of their "Power Commander" tuning device in California. Several of the DJ Authorized Tuning Centers have been served subpoenas to supply power commander sales records for the years 2000 thru 2005. We H-D Buell of Vallejo were one of the Tuning Centers served and as of yesterday have quit selling DJ Power Commanders. ... Terry |

There is only one reason to want those records, and that is to go after those people. Whats next, cash payments to people who report on thier neighbors habits to the state? |

I will never forget my F-150 not passing smog becasue of a modified intake. I had to put the old one back on and watch it post WORSE numbers. Then back home to change it again. When is CARB going to understand they should check the numbers before getting bent. Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't a highly tuned bike produce less emissions than a stock bike? |

When I first moved to california I had a mechanic open the hood of my car and close it back down and tell me it failed. Reason: Non-stock apearance. I had chrome valve covers and a chrome factory style air cleaner top. (71 AMC Javelin sst) Never mind the fact those were factory/dealer options, I had to find a more friendly smog station to do it. It passed easily when they would actually test it. That was back in 1990 or so, it's no better now. |

Hey, guys, any of you live in a smog infested area? Is it POSSIBLE that the goal of CARB is to improve air quality - when it is CLEAR to the naked eye that there's a problem with the air? Look, I like vehicles. I like to mess with 'em. I even have modified ones. But why does everyone get bent outta shape when the government actually tries to do something that benefits everyone? Last I checked, we all need air. Are the laws stupid? Jackholio not passing someone because of chrome seems pretty stupid. The intake that runs clean but didn't pass? The manufacturer of that intake can get a CARB exemption, ya know. Oh, did anyone mention that CARB has an exemption process? Like if ya bolt something on and it doesn't negatively impact emissions, then it's eligible for an exemption. I don't know details, but it's VERY common in the car world. Anyway, relax. This is only gonna hurt a little. (snaps on glove - and glances at the Surgi-Lube) -Saro |

Hey, guys, any of you live in a smog infested area? Yep, so what? Is it POSSIBLE that the goal of CARB is to improve air quality Nope, they're fascists. t is CLEAR to the naked eye that there's a problem with the air? That is your opinion. I can point to the other 99% of the Earth's surface which is clear as a bell. Smog only concentrates around population centers. Once it blows out to sea, it's *gone* in a relatively short amount of time. But why does everyone get bent outta shape when the government actually tries to do something that benefits everyone? Same reason we get bent whenever the government imposes their crap on us. This is nothing more than a hole to dump money down. In order to have programs like affirmative action they need to have bullsh1t jobs to fill. Oh, did anyone mention that CARB has an exemption process? It wasn't worth mentioning. In a system where your gas cap fails your smog check, you surely must realize that the exemption is for GROSS POLLUTERS and that loophole gets smaller each day. About the only way to get that classification is with a "historical vehicle" plate. Funny, I saw a Hemi-Cuda with those plates the other day. You can't get an exemption for a bolt-on, the manufacturer has to get it. And good luck proving it to Muhammad at the smog station. This is only gonna hurt a little. (snaps on glove - and glances at the Surgi-Lube) Some more than others. I'm blessed with a good friend who owns a "test-only" center. He can pass anything right down to a chainsaw with dual exhaust and headers. |

The reason I get bent out of shape about it is: Several of the DJ Authorized Tuning Centers have been served subpoenas to supply power commander sales records for the years 2000 thru 2005. The ONLY reason for this is to track down the people that bought them. This is brown-shirt/jack-boot wearing crap. I applaud efforts to make the air cleaner. I detest the attitude of some of these "holier-than-thou" types that think thier mandate to clean the air gives them the right to infringe on peoples lives to whatever degree they think is necessary. We have already had our rights infringed due to terrorists. Do we really need to infringe on the rights of citizens OVER THE INSTALLATION OF A POWER COMMANDER? |

Don't the ones sold in CA say right on the box, "For Off-highway Use Only" ? Sounds like they want to enforce that now. We are going through the same thing with the black rifle thing "off-list lowers" for AR-15 style rifles. A bunch got sold this year, sort of through very careful reading of the law. Now the DOJ might be trying to track down everybody who bought one, to take them back (that's one rumor anyway.) I guess it's probably likely it all starts with good intentions, but slowly morphs into fascism with a socialist face. |

Now you know why the next sporting bike I buy will have all the performance I want in stock form. Between CARB and EPA, I figure in a few years modified bikes will be forced to either conform to OEM Specs or be relegated to off road use only. Even off road, the noise pollution will be another weapon they will have against us. The interesting part will be to see how many smog controlled metro areas will go after the additional revenue associated with the tickets and testing. Could generate more income than the seat belt law. LOL |

Outrider, That would be WAY more income than the seatbelt law. I might have heard this here I am not sure but I know I heard the following somewhere. Law enforcment has been taking classes to help recognize "tuner" cars and the types of violations that they can use to pull them off the road on the spot. I think we will see tighter limits on the top speed allowed of "imported" street legal vehicles soon. They may even make modification of a street legal vehicle a real crime. I can hear the inmates now..... "What you in for fish? "I modded out my GXR to 120 horsepower............. The powers that be want sport bikes gone. They kill lots of "kids". And as you all know ANYTHING goes to protect the children in this country. I am bucking for a global catastrophy. It is the only thing that is going to save us from "Them". |

We "the people" are not smart enough to take care of our selves. "They" the beueracrats (sp)and well meaning out of touch elietists will one by one take our freedoms away over this or that issue, Your grand children may live in a state that is not much different than the former Soviet state is now. Yes they WILL take the guns up, one more "Cullumbine" style rampage would likely do it. When you buy a gun now you fill out forms go through all kinds of checks including a waiting period. When it happens, The brown shirts show up at the gunshop collect the records and go to looking. "wheres the gun Mr.Jones?" The smog thing, get an FI bike and reflash a stock ecm to switch them out. Get the kit to do it soon. Carefuly mod a stock muffler and ecm swap them, If the leos are carrying "sniffers" you are stuck. If you or I pointed out that MARX said that you must wreck the currency and disarm the populace we would be heeled as wild eyed right wing nuts lacking all sense This is in part a result of "let the government take care of it", Rice bikes will be governed to a lower speed I don't have the congressional record but you can bet that it has been discussed. |

Messing with emissions equipment has been illegal for years, and not just in California. If you want to go faster, learn how to ride properly. If the bike is still too slow, then get a faster bike. Modifying it so that it is louder, makes a few more HP and belches more crap into the air is no longer an option and I think that is a good thing. Your personally liberties end when they affect everybody else, and noise and air pollution has an impact on everybody. Sucks that it applies to Buells, but I damn glad it applies to Harleys and Ricers. |

everyone should watch this short video about the second amendment. It's informative and humerous. Even low-band internet should be able to stream it. Click HERE to view it. Hey! Politics! Cool! I'm in... Erosion of liberty will only happen if we let it. The bastards who seek to restrict your freedoms only get the power to do so by winning popularity contests (elections). Don't like the California emissions legislation? Find out which politicians proposed it and voted for it, then organize or join an organization of like-minded folks and vote them out next election. If your candidate wins, make sure that it is well publicized as to why.
