...in my quiet neighborhood, the silence was rent by a horrible tearing of metal sound such as the like I'd not often heard. So, not knowing what lurking terrors awaited me, I forged out into the night air in stocking feet with aught else but my Sony MicroMV Handicam. Admittedly not the best for shooting at night, but it was charged and ready. Click HERE to see what they are cleaning up right now behind my house. |

It looks like a Toyota pick-up crashed off the road; side all torn up. |

Sorry I should have been a little more verbose, but I was tired due to the hour. F-150, 4 door shortbed, driver and 3 passengers. In the top video, panning from right to left, I paused in the middle and zoomed in. That's the front of the truck and once-60-foot-tall eucalyptus tree it took down. In the bottom video, the scene is viewed from the opposite direction, so when the truck is visible you're looking at the passenger side from the tail end. Four completely bald tires and wet roads at high speed. Tox screens showed no intoxicants. The man on the ground was laying there when I got there. The ambulance crews took three people away, but that guy just laid there. I hung around for about 15 minutes, and he was still laying there when I left. I don't know what to make of it, just hoping he makes it. I live at the foot of a slope which ends at my back fence. At the top of the slope is the road you saw in the video, and where this guy crashed was on the uphill side of the road from me. A few months ago we had almost the identical accident up there, only on my side of the road, and the outcome was similar... but that one went downhill and ended up in the back yard of my neighbor 4 houses down. With my bedroom on the back of my house, it sorta makes me want to sleep on the couch! |
