Here's a job opportunity for our Northern (Midwest anyways) contingent. The things you have to do in the interest of science! http://www.motorbyte.com/mmm/pages/2006/85/news85.htm Think you can hold your liquor better than a frat boy? Are you a male motorcyclist with 5 years or more of riding experience, between the ages of 21 and 50? The University of Minnesota can use your help. Because motorcycle related fatalities have risen and alcohol is a risk factor, the U of M, along with the Minnesota Highway Safety Research Center, are conducting a study to measure the effects of alcohol on riding skills. The study will require volunteers to consume alcohol and then ride an instrumented motorcycle on a test track. You would need to be available for multiple days of testing in July and August for 5-8 hours per day. Volunteers that complete study requirements will be compensated $750. Interested riders should contact the research team at 1-866-421-9843. |

Nothing like encouraging drinking and riding, even if it IS on a closed course. O_o |

Darth, its for the greater good! I really wonder how they'll be handling the inevitable road rash and tip overs. Maybe they're using 125s from the MSf class or something equally light I recall the motorcyclist article on the same subject. Apparently drunk people on motorcycles are tough to control, even on a closed course! |

The greater good? There's no reason to spend tax dollars on studies like this. I'll tell you the results right now: Drinking impairs your ability to react quickly and thus lessens your overall ability to safely ride a motorcycle (or anything else). Recommendations: Don't drink and ride. Period. |

"Wheelies & Burnouts come to mind............" So does Death Its a very stupid study, why need a study when people each year decide to drink and ride then crash and die. The results are already there |

I would do it but Im in Cali so I dont think I owuld be much of a help. Second I woulfd have more faith in the results of the study if I were able to walk away and say I was a prt of it. I wonder if they provide you with proper track gear? (ie. a pillow for the butt and some elbow and knee pads.) |

What? Maybe they want to be able to teach us how to safely drink and drive by telling us which skills we need to improve on before getting wasted and driving. By useing sensors and such they will know what skills are affected the most like, too much oversteer,or too slow in the corner etc. then with this knowledge the can let us know so we can prevent it. What freaking idiots! |

I got to ride a really cool motorcycle with essentially pontoons off to each side that would let you really test the conrnering limits of your tires. Impossible to crash and was an absolute riot to tear around on. I think the police used it for convincing new officers what the motocycles were truely capable of doing without killing them. It was only around for a couple of years but would be a safe way of running this study. The fun factor would really increase if you could drink and ride that thing. I am sure if University students, drinking and motorcyles are all involved, the responsible parties will have thought of all the things that can go wrong and have designed the study so no one will get hurt. |

Sorry Boys and Gals, I used to be occupied investigating insurance claims and the worst ones ever seen were the drinking and driving ones. Totally Unnecessary in this day and age. |
