Just to remind everyone, or maybe just to remind me about parking your bike on hot asphalt. Its about 93 degrees here in indiana today and i decide to ride with my wife about 3 miles down the road to an "all you can eat" pizza place. I was worried the intire time about someone knocking it over b/c it seemed to be Hillybilly hour, and i just read Brineusaf's post about his bike getting backed into and was worried all to hell! Well i get out there about 30 min later and notice sometime odd. My bikes kickstand is 3 inches into the ground! My wife says "take a picture with your phone" i said "nah". well i wish i did b/c now im on here telling you about it!! Im very suprised it was still standing....Just an FYI i guess!! I have a plastic coaster like thing that progressive insurance gave me at daytona to preven such things. A crushed soda can works too. parking at events where they put you on the grass can be just as bad. Someone with a cnc milling center could make some of these out of aluminum with their logo all over it for advertising. A drop press with a die set would be even better. (faster and cheaper) |

A ride I attend every year ends in a park where we park in a grassy field. As we enter every rider is handed a thin piece of wood for under the kickstand. I have a nice plastic coaster type thing, given out by the local Honda dealer, that I keep in my tank bag. |

It definitely happens, my Brother's Bandit was on its side one day with the stand fully engulfed by the asphalt. |

Arrived at work one day to find that someone had left about a dozen 3" aluminum squares (complete with nicely radiused corners) in the motorcycle parking area. Thought that was a cool thing to do, whoever it was. Of course, having a sidecar rig, I didn't need them, but still.... |

My friend just had his Laverda on it's center stand and it sunk in the pavement and tipped over onto the car beside him, both had damage. I keep a small piece of aluminum plate in my trunk(s) so it won't happen to me. |

Americanmadexb - Talk about luck, good thing there wasn't a line so you weren't in there longer than required. I had that almost happen to me right outside of work, someone mentioned to me that my kickstand was sinking so I put a piece of wood under it. We have an abundance of brick on the ground here, so I usually park somewhere where brick is laid, instead of blacktop or the like. You definately lucked out! A lesson for all who didn't know. |

It was probably only a 3" lift, possibly 4" so I doubt the bike would have tipped over if it were on level ground. The base rock underneath would have held. It is scary to see one's pride & joy tilted over like that though. (Message edited by metalstorm on July 16, 2006) |

It definitely happens, my Brother's Bandit was on its side one day with the stand fully engulfed by the asphalt. Good lord. I can't believe anyone would put asphalt down that thick. That's just uncalled for & makes future repairs a pain in the arse. |

It won't fit in one of your jacket pockets? Failing all else I've even been known to stow mine in the spine protector pocket, on the outside of the foam of course. |

I got a vertical pocket outside my main zip of my jacket at nipple height and always carry a 4 inch x 4 inch aluminium plate in that pocket, so far I've never been caught out, (yes I always wear the jacket) Funny, I thought you would be safe with the side stand down on asphalt, ya learn something new every day. |

Popeye had that can of spinach, seems like I have that can of malted beverage, refreshing after the ride and a great kick stand foot when empty. Haven't been able to find one with the spinach effect yet, wonder if the anchors on the forearms help. Did have a girl friend that looked like Oliveoil once........................................................................ |

I use a plastic coaster from a bar that I frequent. I keep it in my tailbag along with disk locks, a water bottle, and some clear safety glasses. Man I sound pretty High Maintenance don't I? |
