On page 76 of the August 2006 Cycle World in big bold type on red boxed out background, you can't miss it, is the following:

quote:

I own an '06 XB12S Lightning Long; before that, I owned an '04 XB12R. The S is more comfortable, but the lack of wind protection wears me out.

-Joe Frus
Rogers, Arkansas

Congratulations on being published in CW amigo!

Now, go hit the gym wussy boy. joker

Neat... Just did 600 miles on an "S" at a moving average of 96 (tracked by a GPS hooked to a Laptop that made the trip as well) and the wind didn't bother me much (or the rain or the Phoenix heat). I don't do gyms either though ;). It is worse than on my 12R for sure but not too entirely bad. I wouldn't want to run more than 125 for long that's for sure, but even then it was an apparel issue more than a wind blast bothering "me" issue...

Ahh well : ).

For the record too though... I'm more comfortable on the "R"...

Having spent a lot of time riding both, the 2 I spent my own money on is the XB9R and XB12R.
(does the S stand for sissy?)

I guess two of us Badwebbers made the August issue - coincidentally both owners of an XB12 Ss as well. I'm in the "Hot Shots" section letters to the editor around page 20. I thanked Kevin Cameron for his fair and balanced portrayal of the Daytona race and the XBRR controversy.

Going to try to make there by 10 pm Sat 07-22. Heard it's a good place instead of Holiday Park.

Court...
I was wearing your "One lap of America" t-shirt underneath the Aerostitch. What year was that?

Also had a small talisman reminding me of Fran; she taught me how to ride these silly things.

Joe's quote was a mis-quote actually. I asked him about it earlier. They sort of edited his comments.

Right on Reg!...I mean "ride on".

Jersey,

I saw your letter too, meant to call it out as well, but fell asleep at the keyboard. Excellent letter, better than the one I was thinking of writing. I agree 100% with your sentiments. Cameron is wonderful.

Joe,
If you still have them, please post up your original comments.

I believe his quote was taken out of context. He can't be all that bad. Sent me a set of rear brackets, foot pegs and an A.T.B Tee-shirt.....for free!
He's OK in my book.

Reg:

That was vintage 1995 and I'd number that, along with my shirts from the FIRST BattleTrax as two of the rarest Buell shirts.

The S-2 is running like a dream and I'm getting the itching again.

I have pictures of Fran in the office. She was a legend. I had the rare and most unusual treat of spending 12 hours in a car with her one day. It was later that day that Erik commented to someone "if Fran or Court asks you to ride to lunch...ASK WHERE".

I still marvel at some of her accomplishments.

Man..what memories. If I had to cull through the "Amazing Fran Things", I'd have to list #1 as the fact that she was a legend and a genuinely NICE person at all times. Lotsa folks can be legends based on talent, to do both requires character. She was without equal.

Thanks for the ride, the write and the memory.

Court

C:
One of my favorite memories of Fran was when she stopped by the office early one day dressed in here usual grey leathers (she never rode ANYWHERE unless fully geared-up)I asked where she was off to.

"Dinner.." she answered.

"Isn't it a little early?"

"...in Phoenix."

Blake -
Cool enough, however CW chose to only publish my first paragraph. I went on to explain the events of Daytona race night at Nick's house and how Erik cared about his product & customers. I guess I wasn't pithy enough to suit them.

Yes, Jon is correct. Also, if it wasn't stated, I meant at 100+ m.p.h. the lack of protection wears me out.

Here is the quote in entirety...

"HI, My name is Joe Frus, I live in Rogers, Arkansas. Currently I own an '06 XB12 Ss Lightning Long, before that I owned an '04 XB12R. I like the '06 because I have more room and the comfort level is higher. I would trade it, however, for the XB12R if it had the length and comfort. The problem between the R and the S is, the S is comfortable, but the lack of wind protection wears you out. The R is a whole different animal. My wrists hurt, my butt hurts, but it is so smooth at speed. "

"i just (Sat/Sun) did 1,1088.64 miles in 23hrs. and 5 minutes..."

I take it that there is one too many 1's in that number. That would make the average speed 47 MPH instead of 482 MPH.

Al,
PM me when you know for sure if you're gonna make it to Cafe 27, I will see, weather permitting, if I can round up some Buelligans to come meetcha!!!
Cafe 27 is cool, basically it's a truck-stop with a band, food and beverages, and bikini-clad waitresses (sometimes)....interesting place...plus, holiday park is across the street from it... so you can always do both!
