This time last year Floyd were playing together for the first time in 29 years. I wonder what Syd thought about that, even though he left the band he formed some 35 years or so back. Reclusive or not, he must have loved them play at Live8. The Lunatic Is In My Head Rocket |

The Lunatic Is In My Head Rocket" I posted some shots of syd from last year, when the press was following him around and hassling him about live-aid. he seemed oddly detached and content. man- what abrilliant young man he was. he seemed to have found a lot of peace after he left the band. I've always understood that his bandmates, etc., dosed him without his knowledge, frequently, in hopes of keeping his 'creative' juices flowing. I can understand why he'd resent them, still.... I'll try to find those pictures... |

Cool. You heard how Geldof managed to get Floyd to reform for Live8? He was on his way to see Waters when his mobile rang. It was Waters. He said to Geldof there was no point in him 'coming' as he wasn't doing it. Geldof replied, "I'm not getting off at Croydon East", such is the stubbornness of the man. A few days passed and Geldof's phone rang. "Alright I'll do it". Geldof, having spent the last several weeks talking with as many performers as only we can imagine replies, "Alright. Who is it and you'll do what?" Several minutes later the phone rang again. Warters didn't have Gilmour's phone number, so needed to get it from Bob. That's how, after 29 years, Warters and Gilmour got talking again, and Live8 happened for us with Floyd in the line-up. Rocket |

"And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking, racing around to come up behind you again. The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older, shorter of breath and one day closer to death" Not written by Syd, but still my favorite. |

It's awfully considerate of you to think of me here And I'm much obliged to you for making it clear that I'm not here. And I never knew the moon could be so big And I never knew the moon could be so blue And I'm grateful that you threw away my old shoes And brought me here instead dressed in red And I'm wondering who could be writing this song. I don't care if the sun don't shine And I don't care if nothing is mine And I don't care if I'm nervous with you I'll do my loving in the winter. And the sea isn't green And I love the Queen And what exactly is a dream And what exactly is a joke. Good bye Syd.. Thank you for what little you did give us.. It is precious and eternal.. |

Early Floyd has such a different feel from '68 and after, and that's all thanks to Roger Keith "Syd" Barrett. He was their guiding light.... shine on! "Oh where are you now pussywillow that smiled on this leaf? When I was alone you promised the stone from your heart my head kissed the ground I was half the way down, treading the sand please, please, lift a hand I'm only a person whose arm bands beats on his hands, hang tall won't you miss me? Wouldn't you miss me at all?" "Dark Globe" Syd Barrett Mad Cap Laughs |

"How I wish, How I wish you were here, We're just two lost souls living in a fish bowl, year after year, Running over the same old ground, what have we found, The same old fears, Wish you were here" The Genius of Pink Floyd is that they never gave up on Syd's vision. |
