Thanks, Brian, but I never bothered to sign up for cable when I came out here 2 1/2 years ago, and that's all there is. I've seen a couple of episodes in the past though, and it was about as funny as it gets. Eboos, I guess this makes 62. Pretty good CPUE - Catch Per Unit of Effort |

Did I ever tell you guys about the time I was accepted by the Harley crowd. Yeah, it was the day I bought my X1 from Bob Dron. |

I have found Buells to be for me at least, not about being accepted in any way to anyone but rather more about the shear, unadultrated fun of motorcycling. Buells take me back to why I started this motorcycle love affair in the first place. A Ninja has more, well, more just about everything but it has no soul. None. It's a high performance UJM. A Harley has soul but it has no performance. I have owned and rode 54 bikes of various brands. For me, these many years of education have culminated in one brand. BUELL. It's what it's all about. Enjoy your FZ1. If you ever find yourself in Hermiston, Oregon needing a place to crash or anything else, look me up and you will be welcomed. |

Buells acepted by the harley crowd? Who honestly really cares. i enjoy showing up at bike rally riding my buell and parking in the middle of the harley riders just to irk them. The real riders are still friendly the others can take a hike. The same ones that can take a hike don't get my yamaha cafe racer either or my flat black gs 1000. |

Was at caasoday, ks last summer and standing next to a couple of doo rag wearing harley riders. About 6 younger riders went by on various asian sportbikes. One of the doo raggers says to his friend, "they just don't get it do they" His friend obviously a rider not a poser says to his friend "looks like they get it just fine, maybe you don't." That about sums it up for me |

I find riding with Harley riders an act of patience. I have problems going slow enough for them. I constantly loose them at stop signs and turns, and don't mean to. I always get the same jawwing at first, but they sure hate to make comments later to the guy that has to slow down and wait for them. Most of the Harley riders that I ride with now respect the Buells. P.S. At my last event the M2 seemed to be a hit, of course they were a bunch of chopper guys and were summing up the parts more than the whole bike. |

I have found that at least the hard-core 'faithful' doesn't send the family dog around to 'water my sidewalls' and talk about throwing it into the campground bonfire. They look at me like "at least he is trying". I never cared a lot, but just a bit sometimes as I made good friends with some of the HD folks. With them it was always good humored teasing. The others were a lot more dangerous seeing how prospects to the clubs are sent out to STEAL bikes as their initiation during big events like Bike Week, Sturgis, etc. Then the whole thing takes a decidedly more serious tone. Good thing the HD's are still worth more money to them, BUT they steal all brands, nothing is out of reach except maybe a true "rat bike." P.S. By the way, the XB is just another jap bike to them, you have to POINT and EXPLAIN the Sportster motor and the HD ownership/affiliation. They mostly don't even SEE anything that isn't what they are used to looking at, a V-twin lump in a cruiser, dresser or chopper motif. (Message edited by CURTYD on July 16, 2006) |

With an aftermarket pipe though they'll take notice when they hear you. I get a lot of second looks from H-D riders that hear me coming. |

Walked into a bar a while back in full gear and got the "oh look another a-hole jap biker" attitude and quite a few other less nice comments about being "one of them". Two fo the guys went outside to check out my "Jap Bike". I was thinking they were going to knock it over so I went to the window just in time to see the jaws drop. They came back in all sweet and nice raving about how awesome my "American bike" was. One of them even knew the motor and asked what the hell I was riding "cause it looks like some kinda prototype racing Harley". Free beer and a few laughs at the jerks who wanted to diss me for riding Jap but ended up buying me beer instead. |

As a rider not a HD rider, it really depends on where you are as to whether your acknowledged let alone accepted. I see this stuff often riding my Busa and cruising through the HD dealer to grab something. Some of these guys (parking lot loiters)are clueless. The Old Heads I understand as for them it is a way of their life. But for the rubs and weekend warriors, get a clue. Locally the guys know I own several bikes and I'd ride anything you allow me to throw a leg over. If they dis you, screw them. On that note and slightly off topic I stop for all bikes sitting along side the road. Make and model doesn't matter.

At MB ralley a couple of years ago I was in outside lane next to sidewalk where the HA were staying on my XB9S, and a lady HA told me they liked my bike. Not the rice beside me. Some one on a yamaha.More and more people are learning what Buells are.On my trip to Deals Gap last Sun. It started raining on I40 about Swannanow for about 10 miles. I kept riding and under every bridge the was at least one Harley parked.I just blew my horn waved and kept on riding, no rain gear just out for the love of the ride. |

I'm usually one of the guys under the bridge putting my rain gear on. Or at least when I'm on the Bagger. On any of the other bikes I just keep riding as there isn't anything I can do. |

When the guys at work I ride with on Harleys ask me why I don't trade for one. I tell them I bought my bike to ride not sit and look pretty. When I ask them why they didn't ride that day there anwser is it might rain and I'll have to polish my chrome or my bike was not clean!! I tell them the differance between a Buell rider and a harley rider is a harley rider cares about the destnation and a Buell rider cares about the ride getting there!! |

I've had Buells in the past. One, (Boom!) was sold to help finance a Dresser that I got to keep all of 6 weeks. The second (Roscoe!) was taken from me by no good, dirty, poop eating, pig raping thieves. I now own a 2006 Street Glide. I got it instead of another Buell because I wanted something I could travel on. It's real nice and all. Pretty bike, nice sound system. Cushy, comfy, etc. 200 mile tank range. Can't beat that wind-in-the-knees feeling. Cool factor 10, Mr Sulu! But, it did not remove or even abate the large empty feeling I've had in my chest ever since Roscoe got swiped. I've been riding this bike for over a month and I have yet to feel like there was anything even remotely alive about it. If bikes could be zombies, this one is standing still, screaming "Eat my brains". Maybe if I rode it SOMEWHERE instead of my usual Sunday loop. Maybe I could hook up with my old group of other rejects and wierdos and go somewhere like we used to. I know this bike has a soul in it somewhere, I just ain't felt it yet. Is my connection to my XB9SX that strong? Am I having a hyper-expensive attack of buyers remorse? Did Roscoe ruin me for other bikes? I'd say "yes" to the first question and "I sure hope not" to the second. The third question is a definite "probably". I'm not ready to give up on the bagger so soon but it's clear as beer pi$$ that I need another Buell, PDQ. Either I need to get really lucky and find $10,000 just laying around or my dealer needs to get an XB demo bike to help feed my addiction. In simple terms, the people who don't like or don't understand Buells have never ridden a one. Bob |

Hmmm, I would like to again propose that someone make a Buell version of and OLD Harley T-shirt. That shirt reads: "If I have to Explain, you wouldn't understand." Harley recently reissued that shirt, but it doesn't mean as much as it did 20-25 years ago when I bought mine. It would mean so much more to have a Buell version of that shirt!!! Just my $.02 Bret |

I rode my '97 S3 (true Sportster motor) to my local HD/Buell dealer a while back and took up position at the parts desk. I was dressed in leathers, but gee whiz they were racing leathers and weren't the magic black color. I stood there patiently for 20 minutes without being acknowledged in any way. Finally one of the salesmen walked by, I knew him, and we spoke briefly. I asked him why I couldn't get service and he told me, no kidding, "You probably won't, dressed like that." I rode in on a bike they sell and service and I'm somehow a second class citizen. Damn. |

Nedwreck - May I suggest the Uly. The bags have more room than a bagger and when on a rode trip, you can turn off the Interstate and ride twisted back roads for a couple of states. I did on a road trip from Indiana to North Carolina. I rode slab until the Kentucky/West Virginia state line then turn onto mountain roads for the next two states. 720 miles total with five hours of blasting two lane mountain roads. Also on the road I get between 185-205 miles per tank. |

Thank's all, for whatever reason this thread took a different tone on the 2nd page. Previously, I had stated I was purchasing an FZ1, it hasn't happened yet and I am still considering the buell, speed triple, ducati monster, etc. , but oh how I do like the looks of those buells. I just have to ride one. For the few that made reference to my username, I use that name on every forum I am a member of, from banjos to buells. I'll keep on lurking and asking, and searching for the perfect bike for me. |

There was an ad in this morning's paper that was interesting. If you buy a new FZ-1, FZ-6, R-1, or R-6 from a certain dealer in Maine you can participate in a free track day ride at New Hampshire International Speedway (near Louden, NH) on 31 July. I'm not sure that's my idea of a good way to spend a Monday. On a race track with a group that will inevitably include some squids in training. Maybe it will be better controlled than that. :> Jack |

-------------"but oh how I do like the looks of those buells. I just have to ride one."--------------------- well first off: your profile says ya have a 2003 xb9r? i think your thread went sour maybe due to the way you asked about being "accepted" by the H.D. crew. kinda makes you sound like a "poser" per say. then w/ the screen name it was just easy pickings for some. SORRY! came across like a possible TROLL. IMO. but i am nobody. what ever bike you do get buell or not (as there are some really great bikes out there) do it for YOU! GOOD LUCK! |

Firebolteric, when I was registering I tried to leave the bike owned section blank, but I thought it would not let me, so I put the XB9R since that is what I was looking at. For the record, last 3 bikes in the last 3 yrs. DR650SE, Sportster, and FZ6, now looking again. No trolling or posing, just interested in buell ownership experiences. |

By the way, the RIGHT bike is the one you actually acquire and RIDE. It could be a Vespa if you actually ride it every day. I find I liked all of them and BUELL just happens to be the "flavor of the weak" right now. I do like the niche aspect of it. But mostly I like the small dimensions, but I would still like a bit more legroom. (Message edited by CURTYD on July 18, 2006) |
