just curious if anyone else has had this happen.

2006 CityX, w/ ~5600km on it now. I run the Buell tank bag, soft saddlebags, and the small wedge bag 'most of the time'. I clean the bike regularly, being particularly careful when I've been out in wet weather, or one of my off-pavement trips. The buffig/stripping effect is where the saddle bag straps come across the rear subframe and rear footpeg frames ( and to some extent, where the bags themselves rest on the subframes) its not flaking, or gouging, but there's enough friction that its been wearing away the paint!

I'm not 'too' miffed, as its aluminum, and wont rust, plus repainting the subframes is relatively easy, but has anyone else had this happen? should I bring it to someones attention at either my next service, or at the factory level? ( or am I better off just fixing it myself at this point)

suggestion for the factory - have the bags fitted with the same sort of material thats on the back of car 'nose bra's', to prevent the chafing!!

Thats normal wear and tear type stuff. I have an XB12R with the Buell soft bags and they tend to rub on the tail section a bit also. Nothing major, but I noticed it. Nothing the factory or the dealer can do for you. Maybe you can put some clear tape on the section that the bags rub on. The bags for my R came with the tape, but I chose to not use it.

Put some of that 3M blue painters tape where the straps rub the frame.

I'll see if I can snap a pic tomorrow ( raining like crazy here right now)...but its more than 'minor' scuffing. 10-12" long on the subframe rail under the seat, and clearly visible from at least 15-20 ft away. its gone right through the color coat/s to the aluminum underneath.

I have never seen soft luggage that does not scratch the bike over time.
