How do you handle the typical H-D rider when passing each other on the road? I nearly always give an acknowledgement but I get frustrated by the H-D rider that ignores me because he assumes I on a ricer. Comments? Suggestions? |

Smile and go on with life. Rude people are not worth getting worked up over. |

I don't think its specifically an HD-itis. I refer to it as acute Cruiseritis. It is a disease that afflicts mostly the weekend warrior types on Wide Glides or Valkyries and when I'm riding behind them I notice that they wave at other cruisers but no "crotch rockets". One time on PCH I was behind a bunch of these guys and coming in the opposite direction was a similar procession of motorcycles to our own, ie: cruisers, crotch rockets, more cruisers, etc. The guy in front of me waved to the first set of cruisers, and then pulled his hand in when the crotch rockets went by and then waved again when more cruisers were going by. Some people are just lamers. I'd help any biker I see stranded on the side of the road regardless what they ride. But I really don't wave much. |

in lieu of the other thread I have been inundating with Christianity, I usually just flip them off in passing. They can't see it, and it makes me feel better. |

If they wave, I wave back. Otherwise, I watch the road in front of me. Really, on some popular roads, on a busy day, it gets annoying and distracting to wave at every bike anyway. Good luck, Bill |

I hate the wave. If someone waves at me and it's obvious I had to see it, I'll wiggle my fingers, but I won't take my hand off the grip. I really have bigger things to keep my attention on... sorry. Plenty of other riders out there to wave at, though. You can give the cool underhand peace sign, the casual flip of the hand off the side of the grip, the more formal pointing wave, or the beginners full wave above the elbow that gets pushed back by the wind. Plenty of wavers out there. |

Some people have crashed while waving. Keep it a subtle ackowledgment with your hand close to the controls. A nod is enough. Maybe they don't wave because they are afraid to take their hand off the controls?? You never know. But it's been my experience that HD riders seldom wave. |

"But it's been my experience that HD riders seldom wave." They wave like a mofo here in the South. They actually broke me of the wave - I got tired of having to acknowledge all of them. They probably post threads on their boards about the snooty Buell rider who didn't wave back. |

I don't wave to anyone. Both hands on the bar, eyes on the road. Live longer. |

I don't wave to anyone. Both hands on the bar, eyes on the road. Absolutely. A flick of the passing light if appropriate, but that's all. It still irks me after all these years of riding that a motorcyclist coming the other way has to do an impression of swatting a swarm of insects, just at the precise instant I peel off for a corner |
