Updated: 12:53 a.m. CT June 22, 2006 WESTMINSTER, Colorado - A motorcyclist died after apparently being struck by lightning while riding in rush hour traffic on a highway between Denver and Boulder, police said. Witnesses reported seeing a flash of light shortly before the motorcyclist struck the highway's center concrete divider, Westminster police spokesman Tim Read said in a statement. The man, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead at the scene Wednesday. His motorcycle came to rest about 150 meters from where lightning blasted an 18-by-8-inch crater 4 inches deep that blew chunks of asphalt across the highway and slightly damaged other vehicles. |

Nuthin' nice 'bout that! The worst of it is I ride a Lightning in the lightning capital of the world...AZ. We get some great light shows during monsoon season, but it is damn scary if you get caught in a monsoon on your bike! |

Back in 2002 IAMike and I were driving across Nebraska on our way home from CO. We had to drive throught a storm, couldn't stop as there was no where safe for many miles. If we stopped, we whould have been the tallest object around. A couple of lightning hits were so close you could feel the concussion. Instantanious flash and boom. We finally were able to pull off at a rest stop and hide under some concrete awnings. VERY scary.... Brad |

Bike was yellow and was marked 'Katana' IIRC. They can't say yet if it was the lightning or the crash that killed him. Reportedly wearing a helmet, bike didn't look bad at all. Damn spooky cause I was riding at the same time yesterday about 12 miles south of him. |

Several years ago I was talking to a Goldwinger that had been hit by lightning while in Colorado. He and his wife had stopped to put on rain gear as the storm was moving in. The next thing he woke up in the hospital. The lightning didn't kill him but his wife just about did when he asked about his bike before he asked about her. |

Happened to a fellow riding with some motojournalists from So Cal to Harley's 100th Anniversary in 2003. If I remember correctly, I believe he was with the Cycle World Crew and it was somewhere in the mountains just west of Denver. Is just one more reason, I don't ride in the rain unless I absolutely have to. |
