Today I finally got my license (exchanged for a foreign), and no motorcycle yet!!! I thought I had decided on the motorcycle to buy and the dealer (XB12R / Liberty), but this weekend my brother took me to see a Triumph Speed Triple, and I was impressed - the Triumph is beautiful! I sat on it, and it is similar in the seating position to the Lightning models, but I'm more inclined to a lower sportier riding position. All my life I only owned sports bikes. That's why I love the XB12R, but I'll wait to see if there are any changes to the 2007 model - hopefully it will come with a 6 speed. BTW, I still don't understand the exhaust shootout. Am I reading it correctly that if I add a Drummer or any other exhaust to the XB I have to purchase the racing module, or risk damaging the engine? All I want is to have a louder exhaust so people can hear me. Any clarification will be appreciated. Thanks. Paul PS This is a great site! |

I had a Speed III and put a Hindle on it. Cost to re-map at the dealer??? $35.00! Think about it. |

Paul, yes you need to do a ECM and a TPS reset for a new exhaust on a Buell. Also you said you just got your License...and then you went on to say that you have owned sportbikes all your life??? |

I think he just got his motorcycle license for the country, it sounds like he has been ridding in another country! |

Yes, I finally decided to get my license in this country. I've always had sports bikes while growing up (SA), but since coming to this country many years ago I never applied for one, until now. Can't wait to start riding again, though... |

Paul, What type of bike to own is a tough decision. One year after I bought my '99 S3 I ran across a killer deal on a '97 Blackbird. Even though the Honda had a silky smooth 6 speed tranny, had killer looks and went 0 to Oh-wow in nothing flat the Bird sat in the garage most of the time. I've ridden a Sprint ST and really liked it but there is just something about the torque and ride of the Buell that I just can't let go. The long distance riding on the new models is my only concern. |

Don't expect a six speed. It has been suggested and been shot down by the factory repeatedly. |

"Don't expect a six speed. It has been suggested and been shot down by the factory repeatedly." Never say never: http://www.harley-davidson.com/PR/MOT/2006/06_template.asp?bmLocale=en_US&family =dyna&model=FXDB&market=US&modelsection=specs
quote:And the new 6-speed Cruise Drive™ transmission via mid-mount controls.
Granted this is for the Dyna, but once in the door it becomes fair game. |
