So I went for a late night ride (had to test the new HID's). Within a 1/2 hour of being out in the country I couldn't see out my helmet shield. Bugs... I was completely covered, yuck... I had to stop to clear of my visor, I could have used a snow shovel.  Thank god for the xb9sx hand guards, these were completely coated. Now I don't live anywhere near Minnesota, or (insert bug infested region), but we do get some insects. Two questions, How do you deal with bugs? Any cleaners, or wipes for use while out and about? I had a few lens wipes with me, they just smeared the bug juice. How do people in states without a helmet law survive? 12v powered mobile bug zapper???  | ||

I travel with a bottle of kleer vu anti fog cleaner spray. When needed I stop and spray the face shield and wipe it down a couple times. Not only does it clean the guts off it also helps to keep the fogging down. | ||

On long trips I put soap and water on a clean rag and stow it in my tankbag so I can give it a quick wipe on the go. | ||

For the gloves and other leather, a light coating of something like silicone, will help you be able to wipe away the bugs and what not, also any road grime from rain... not the best looking thing, but... As far as the visor, I always wear some kind of riding glasses under my lid, and try to kick the face shield up a little, let it act more like a bug screen...allowing me to see...other than that, i just deal with it... By the way, I dont use the fly screen, so, bugs arent directed right up into my face anymore.... Chase | ||

Plexus is a great plastic cleaner -- I use it on my face shields alla time -- added benefit is that the carcasses seem to come off easier I ride with a small bottle of cleaner that has a sponge and a lil squeegee built in -- Aerostich sells em under the neame of -- nope, not gonna type the name -- way to tempting a target ;-} | ||

I spray a light coat of furniture polish on the visor and helmet. The bugs don't stick as much.. | ||

You people crack me up...  I will have to look into the aerostich product. Even if it is just for the name. Funny thing, someone asked if my HID attracted the bugs. I just went out to clean the bike. (FYI It sucks living in a city, no where to properly wash a bike) The front of the bike is covered, except for my HID lowbeam. The halogen highbeam (which I was also running) is covered as well. I guess the bugs got vaporized... I will have to get a pic of this, its just too weird. | ||

You might laugh at this but before going on a long trip, wrap the fork sliders and fairing in Saran wrap. When you get there, unwrap and toss it, with the bugs, away. | ||

i eat th' bastids..... do what i do....don't use a faceshield.....less to clean.... heck, if you remove your headlght, the bugs won't come after you. | ||

rain-x also stops them from sticking. I can usually clear them with my glove without smearing. Eventually I will stop and clean them off at a gas station, though sometimes I have carried a damp soapy paper towel and a dry one if I know I am going to need them! |
