did you replace the front strap with the new can? They say they are a one time deal, and they should be replaced every time you take it off...That being said, I've taken mine off 3 or 4 times with no prob..I had one break once and ordered a couple to keep on hand.... |

Well I don't know if they are a one time deal or not, I have taken my stock can off oh 20 or so times and have not had a strap break yet. I think they break because they are over tightened. Otherwise I should have had to replace quite a few of them by now. |

At the Technical Seminar at Homecoming Erik and Abe said that the reason they put that spec of replacing each time you replace the muffler is that under test they found that the muffler can get up to 60 G's on a XB. They don't think it is worth the risk not to change. They went into how it is a function of how good the suspension isolates the g's versus something or other a little over our heads in Engineer Speak. But the man said they should be replaced. YMMV |

Me personally I hope this is for the XB models. But if the strap is supposed to be a one time use item, $25 seems a little steep. You must not have to remove the muffler for any maintenance on the XB models like you do for the tube frame models. Just my thoughts. |

The service manuel recommends the replacement of that particular strap. The KV is full of threads that address this problem. |

i thought the same thing for a while, they'll be fine.. . swapped pipes about 3 or 4 times but both the front strap and torca clamp eventually busted. i just replaced all 4 parts, feel much better too. no more worries about WHEN they will go. i don't keep the straps/clamp crazy tight, just nice and snug. looked like the metal just got fatigued over time and cracked right through. |
