History Lesson Have a history teacher explain this----- if they can. Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846. John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946. Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860. John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960. Both were particularly concerned with civil rights. Both wives lost their children while living in the White House. Both Presidents were shot on a Friday. Both Presidents were shot in the head. Now it gets really weird. Lincoln 's secretary was named Kennedy. Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln. Both were assassinated by Southerners. Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson. Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808. Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908. John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839. Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939. Both assassins were known by their three names. Both names are composed of fifteen letters. Now hang on to your seat. Lincoln was shot at the theater named 'Ford.' Kennedy was shot in a car called ' Lincoln' made by 'Ford.' Lincoln was shot in a theater and his assassin ran and hid in a warehouse. Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and his assassin ran and hid in a theater. Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials. And here's the kicker... A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe. |

I like the nitpickingness of Snopes. Especially the theatre thing. If they had movies, Lincoln would have been in a movie theatre. |

Well-put. I like snopes for the most part, but their semi-debunking of this entry was kind of.... underwhelming. |

I'll be teaching history at an Ivy League school in about three years. I've come across this phenomenon before. I believe it's something called "coincidence". |

I think the joke goes: "A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland A week before Kennedy was shot, he was in Marilyn Monroe." |

What did Lee Harvey Oswald say before he shot Kennedy? Through the window, over the Grassy Knoll, past the Governer, nothing but neck. Famous quotes after LINCOLN was shot.. Other than THAT, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play? |

Yeah, I know it's not an "official" Ivy league school, but I'd consider it tougher than some of them, especially due to the extracurricular activities that all students must do. And I think I remember reading somewhere that USMA was in the Ivy League when it was a football league a long time ago... A half hour in which direction? I grew up an hour away in CT, spent two years going to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, (about an hour north) and spent five years at USMA... I probably know where you live! |

half-hour west (less according to route and traffic conditions) in Chester, NY.... technically, I believe The Point's actually tougher than most any of the others. Not too many shoe-ins or legacies, there... RPI is NO slouch school, either. (know it well, used to stop in troy to pick up a buddy who attended RPI on my way to Stratton) Very cool that you'll be teaching at The Point. I buell over there every summer to catch the USMA Band's '1812 overture'..... Killer Fireworks over the Hudson, The boys from Drum (10thMD) firing big guns... Not to miss. (Nice looking lady MPs there, as well, diggin' on the S2 rat) |

My scoot's down due to trans oil spewing. Happened two weeks ago en route to Jersey_Thunder's EXCELLENT shop. Blazed home (thanks for lending me the haversack, oil and allen key, Thunderheart!), parked the scoot, and have been up to my elbows in other sh*t since then. Will take a gander at the trans today, finally. With the mileage that thing has on it, I can't complain. now....should there be a spare XLR laying about........ |

Tramp - yes! The 1812 Overture out by Trophy Monument rules! I used to love that concert. I miss the place, (which I never would have thought when I was a cadidiot) and can't wait to get back there. It's so peaceful, (when there's not an upperclassman yelling at a smack) and yet so close to NYC. Great place... Mike - yeah, I remember those roads well. Storm King, and that one that goes along the side of the mountain, passing by the north gate to USMA and the Treasury building and ski lift. I can't remember the number, but I want to say 218 or something... Great road, when it was open. |
