aside from the obvious miscues, note that in the second pic the pilot looks like he's about to come back over the paint stripes. also note the "smudge" in the road about three feet in front of the bike that looks like oil residue. in the third pic, at the lower left, you can also see this "residue."

it looks to me like he not only rode over the paint stripe JUST when he needed traction the most, but that there was some additional anti-friction agent mixed in as well.

also note in the second pic the position of the passenger relative to the rider, and note the vastly different position relative to each other in the third pic. did the passenger move suddenly, right at the worst possible moment?

bummer for them, hope they both buff out ok.

Too bad. I hope they will be okay, esp the passenger, that'll be some unfortunate road rash. Hopefully she (passenger) rolled after touchdown, a slide would be nasty but yal know that...

Suicide by Bike is one thing, but taking your Significant Other out with you is totally irresponsible.

Looks like that backpack shifted a good bit off center. Wonder what it weighed, and how a sudden shift might have played into the situation?

Definately going to show the dirty side, front tire has lost the battle for traction.

What dummy would subject a passenger to this kind of ridding?

He should be dragged behind a truck for riding like that with her dressed that way!

Pics are available here: http://www.fastmotofotos.com/mt/2006/06/june_4_2006_1.php

Looking at the 1st and 2nd pic, I think they came from a different series, perhaps one was from earlier in the day. There's definitely a visible mark on the ground in the 2nd and 3rd pic though, and looks to be right around where the slide likely would have started.

Kurosawa, studying the pix closer, i'm not totally convinced the three pix were taken in series - maybe the rider made several camera passes?

look at the angle of the camera view relative to the road in pic #2 compared to pic #3. is is just me, or does pic #3 look like it was shot from a slightly higher angle?

i mention this because if the pix WEREN'T shot in series, my observation about passenger-to-rider position between the two pix isn't valid, and it could also explain why the backpack position is so different between the two pix.

people, we've all made mistakes on a bike, some of us plenty worse than this. cut the folks a little slack if you can? they certainly have learned from this shunt.

i hope so, anyway...

she should have been told to always wear your gear no matter how hot or dumb you look and the guy should stop thinking of him self and remember he now has her life in his hands. always ride with your passenger first

They deserve no slack in my book. Slack should be reserved for folks that do the same thing, but are at least somewhat prepared for a mishap. The rider should be thrown in jail.

It pains me to see "the next picture", knowing what shape her leg/side is going to be in.
they certainly have learned from this shunt.
Too bad the lesson learned from some will be to never get on a bike.
We have to set a good example, if we want to be accepted, and have our sport grow.

Pic #2 is 8323, pic #3 is 8325, so there is one missing between those.

#1 is about 4000 clicks earlier.

No pic #4 or #5 on the site, perhaps out of respect as she's about to drag a toe on the 3rd pic. Ouch.
