Tramp, i'm sorry for what i said. my feelings about WHAT you said, and my feelings toward YOU, have not changed an ounce. but i should have been the bigger man and done a better, more mature job of showing my resentment at your words, and for that i apologize. i'm sorry. i also apologize to the members of BADWEB, for not living up to my self-imposed standards, or the standards of BADWEB. i'm human, but that's simply an obvious admission, and not an excuse. i'm going to step down as a custodian; it seems to me like the right thing to do. Looks alright, could not determine if it benefits me as we've been having rain for around 2 weeks straight and I was scared to lean too far. | ||

Tramp, in my book, this is what earns a man credibility and respect, and although you lost some of each from me earlier, you just gained some back. I extend an apology to you for any unnecessary ramblings of mine. If I ever met you, I'd much rather share some stupid Army stories over a brew, than to the alternatives mentioned earlier. I usually could care less what people say about me, but I get real defensive when I perceive that someone is insulting my family and the hands that raised me. FB/Jerry Do all of Badweb a favor and leave the thread as is. Every now and then peeps need to have a decent knockdown drag out - new man rule, just made it up. It'll fade into the archive soon enough. Until it does it'll serve as a reminder to all that typing on the Internet doesn't leave much room for interpretation, and no one sees the "wink wink" or shite-eating grin you have on your face when you post something meant to be taken lightly. Secondly I know you're not the type to post something like "I'm resigning as a custodian" just to see if folks will beg you to stay on. Well too f**cking bad - stay on as a custodian.  Or don't. It's your call and I'm not trying to tell you what to do. If you think it inhibits/constrains your willingness to speak you mind, sure resign. If you think one harsh exchange is reason enough, well. . . it's your call, but I disagree. Your custodial voice has been a pretty lenient and reasonable one - I have my issues with how moderation currently works on BadWeb but I don't recall ever having an issue with you or your moderating. Don't make me threaten to post the cinnamon ring joke again  (Rocket might be the only one to get that ref - hey Sean did you save a copy of that? I lost it in the archive) D | ||

Philly, if by leaving the thread "as is" you mean not moving it into the Depository and out of the public view, i'm pretty sure the thread will stay put, and thus will archive soon enough. Blake's away, so i haven't yet had the benefit of his counsel, but i think he'll agree that i need to be a "regular" member for awhile. moderating a bulletin board with any sort of rules is tough. even with a "fleet" of custodians, it's damn hard to keep up on everything, and try as one might to adopt a strict "one size fits all" set of rules, each custodian sees the world thru different eyeballs. i sometimes envy Vik and Chop. i know their job isn't easy, either, but the "no rules" thing has GOT to be an easier way to run a bulletin board. they've done well, with a vibrant, popular hang out, and good on 'em for that. for better or worse (mostly better, IMO) Blake has a different idea of what passes muster, and thus the challenge is trying to be all things to all people. which is impossible, of course, but that's the day-to-day reality of a bulletin board with rules, even one with rules as tame as BADWEB's. i broke a rule today, BIG time as far as i'm concerned, and i've punished myself as a result. BADWEB will live thru this nonsense just fine. thanks for your words. FB | ||

Well, Jerry, I’ll have to agree with you; you screwed the pooch. No way to butter that one up. And quitting as a result is one alternative I suppose. We haven’t met yet, but I believe a man’s writings give some insight to his makeup, and I just can’t see you as a quitter. That little screw up pretty much indicates to me that you need a little more practice at this moderating gig. Seems to me you might think about sticking around and keep working on it. No - not acceptable - before you and after you, however, you will not leave custodian status - that is your punishment - your value is too high as custodian to step down - your ability would be partially blocked stepping down - people respect and like you because of your love of riding and your willingness to share of yourself - you fullfill this most in yourself and in your peers hera as custodian - you instinctivelly know whats right - even if you didn't think of it - thats too valuable a commodity to lose to the backround - I'm sorry - I'm not telling you what to do, however the full weight should be measured - get a good nights rest - and approach everything fresh - that is best. Jerry, you & I have never met but I always perceived you as a man who was most definitely not a quitter. So you used a colorful way of telling some one to be fruitfull & multiply. All this drama is perfectly healthy. The way I see it is that if you get a strong enough dose of it here in the virtual world, you won't need to carry so much of it with you in the real world. It sorta keeps things in perspective. I guess it also helps to be cursed with a warped sense of humor.  | ||

intersting, thoughtful, and intelligent point, m-storm. jerry- i have yet to see one poster who would actually approve of your resignation of your post. not a one. we all make mistakes, and i believ your knee-jerk reaction toward quitting your post is just another , albeit nobly-intentioned, mistake. seems badweb could really grow with your continued custodial skills. please reconsider. | ||

folks, i've made my final decision: stepping down as custodian IS the right thing to do. few seem to agree with me, which is flattering. it's also frustrating, because apparently i can't adequately put into words why i know that resigning is the right thing to do for the integrity of BADWEB. i did the right thing by apologizing to Tramp, and i'm doing the right thing by stepping down - both of these actions COMBINED will maintain the integrity of this great board by precluding ANYONE from being able to assert that BADWEB's custodians are in any way, shape or form "above the law." thanks for the support, i appreciate it. i've only been on the custodial crew here since January 2004, i.e. BADWEB flourished long before i was given a key to the janitor's closet, and will continue to do just fine without my presence on the clean-up crew. Ferris, I think I may have come up with a solution that will satisfy you and everyone else. Since you feel it is necessary to step down as custodian even though no one else does. A three month suspension then back as custodian. | ||

Why would anyone want the thankless job of being a custodian? One gets sniped from every direction and is subject to tantrums from posters who are allegedly adults. It just becomes a no-win situation that ultimately detracts from the love of motorcycles. The upside is non-existent or a best, minimal.
