on the side of the autobahn this afternoon. I rode with him all the way to his driveway to ensure he didn't have an more serious problems. Went 100miles out of my way for him, and to repay me for my kindness he invited me to a BBQ tomorrow night. He gave me his address/phone and we parted ways, him repeatedly saying thank you. So anyways, for my courtesy I was offered some free steak and possibly a group ride (his family) afterwards. A little kindness goes a long way! Funny thing he said: You pulled over and I thought you were having problems too as no-one ever stops for people with automobile problems here, until I saw you motion to me. |

I love the look of shock when I actually pull over to help someone. You're a good egg Mr. Brine. |

krauts, right? they tend to be very cool when it comes to gratitude. while I've found deutschland to be sub-par for hitchhiking, I've seen far more courtesy for pulled-over vehicles there, than stateside. Have fun at the bbq. kiss a kraut broad for me. |

A few years back I was riding my old '68 shovelhead home from a long day and night at work. It must have been about 11 - 12 PM. I looked across the intersection near my shop and there was a bike on it's side with duly pinned rider on his side too. I hung a u and helped pick the bike off the totally hammered rider. It must have been one of those Arty Johnson from 'Laugh-In' tip-overs, as there was no apparent damage to bike (Sportster) or the idiot. I found out where he was going and followed him the 1/2 mile to his house, to make sure he arrived alive, or to witness a really bitchin' crash. (that was a study in lane use, lemme tell ya!) His thanks: "Ya want to come in for a drink? I got some great old Scotch!" I declined and went home. That German BBQ sounds WAY better! Let us know how it goes, Kyle! I'm personally interested in what the menu includes, and if it differs much from our typical American BBQ! AL |

Well guys... the food was alright. They (typically) had TONS of beer, brats, steaks, shnitzel, a pig, and some whole chickens on the grill. Since I rode there, I drank some coca-cola, but from what I witnessed I think the beer was pretty strong (again typical). Tramp- though I am not debating that the helpfullness of the germans was good, it however seems that things are not so anymore. Beautiful women who hitch hike, always get picked up; males... usually aren't so fortunate, guess it's the equipment; this is just what I've seen from driving around. Automobile problems on the side of the road though, are practically ignored, everyone gives you a suprised look when you stop to make sure everything is good. I think the germans feel that you should have ADAC for just these reasons, which might be why no-one stops. Similiar situation, while riding today (without my friends, by myself) I spotted a group of riders 20-30 of them, so I quickly assumed formation with them. But while coming out of a turn a bike was waving everyone by while quickly stopping. I locked up my back tire trying to stop quick enough to avoid backing up. Besides me, there was only one other bike that eventually came back for him, the guy riding what I think was a 996 Ducati. Everything worked out fine, nothing was wrong with his bike, but out of his group, there was only one other person to stop (besides me). Oh, there were only like 6-8 women at the BBQ, and only 2-3 of them were attractive. But I missed out on the kisses for you's sorry, but I don't think my wife would have tolerated that... Would have been sleeping in the garage. |

Sounds right, on second thought. I was thinking of nee EAST germany, in the commie days. Hitching was a breeze, there and then. |

Ah, I think Germany has done a great job with public transportation lately. But alas, it doesn't matter much. |

I think that it surprises people when you stop. I stopped today in the middle of no where on Hwy 149 in Colorado for a bicyclist that was on the side of the road. It was a guy that was about 75 yrs. old that had ridden up to this 11,000' pass and was on the way back down when he threw his chain. He couldn't figure out how to put it back on since it came of the crank and kinked too. Being an old bicycle mechanic I got him up an running in no time. I even adjusted his derailleur that had been misadjusted. I didn't ask the guy how long he'd been there but there wasn't a whole lot of traffic. |

I just got stuck the other day on rt 95 in New York. Right on an break in the curb where emergency vehicles can cross over from one flow of traffic to another. (I'll post pics later) I was there for about an hour before anyone stopped, another motorcyclist with a cell phone thank god. But was still there for another 4 hours waiting for my brother to pick me up with his truck. No one else stopped. |
