As I was riding tonight, I noticed that my tach would flicker out. The light would go out and the tach would go to zero. Should I just look for a loose connector, or is it a sign of more trouble ahead (stator problems and so on)? Oh by the way, it's a 2000 M2 with the 01-02 factory tach added. |

I added the same tach to my 2000 M2 but have not had any problems with it. That sounds like a loose or corroded connection If I remember right, the power connections for that are inside the "cup" under the bezel. It taps one of the existing (orange/white?) accessory lighting runs up there for power. The two wires for the tach signal from the ECM go down to the big square wiring harness connector that is under the right front of the gas tank. It would probably be worthwhile to check all the connections. My favorite method is to disconnect inline connectors, clean them with small brass brush if corroded, put a little dielectic compound in the female part, and reconnect them. That procedure restored my horn and dash lights to working when I first got the bike. Let me know if you want more details, I think I still have the installation instructions around somewhere. Jack |

a frosty beverage says it's the ground -- power to the tach and to the light are separate circuits -- for both to be affected, it's either the ground lead, or a spiritual infestation check your ground, sprinkle some blood in a pentagle around the bike (in that order), and all should be well |

"a frosty beverage says it's the ground" Oh yeah! the dash panels are plastic so it depends upon a seperate wire for ground. Makes sense. |
