Well the bearing race backed out into the oil pump causing it to size and destroying the drive gear. So I Then I mounted the cam side of the case to a Bridgeport Then drilled and taped a 1/4-20 hole Installed a button head screw To stop this

That's what all the race guys do.The last S-2 motor I took apart had less than 15,000 miles and that race was just a RA from kissing the oil pump gear. Not a good thing. |

whoaah! that race presses in to the case or just floats? if the motor is healthy can you do that trick with out the tear down? ie, pull the rocker boxes, [no pressure on lifters] pull the timer cover & cup, drop the oil pump [ clear the way and keep shavings out of the pump ] open the cam box remove the cams, and judiciously drill and tap the hole by hand covering the bearings to keep the crap out [using paper towels and grease to shield stuff and to trap and hold the shavings] what else got messed up Spidy? man that race is FUGGLY |

Sure, just a drill and put in a self tapping metal screw with red loctite.Clean up mess well. And it is pressed but wants to walk under hard usage. |

Nothin else got damaged, the race stoped the pump causing the drive gear to spend all it's teeth. Since the pump stoped before the gear shreaded nothing was circulated thru the motor. Once all parts arive should only be a few days. (school and work full time keep Spidey a busy boy) Yeah it does look like that FMJ, I unfortunatly recently moved from a house with a two car to a one car garage |

Spidy-yea just saw it, I've heard of guys putting a tack weld on the actual crankshaft, but what you did looks a helluva lot better/cleaner. Plus it can be removed cleaner if you decide to split the cases again....nice work, did it happen around the gear smoking???? |
