For sporttouring? I don't see how you could beat the SV or FZ in that group. If I could have any bike on that list, it'd be the Ducati, though. |

Personally I would be looking at the BMW or the Honda ST1100 or ST1300...in fact the ST1100 will be my next bike for the long hauls... Larry |

If I were to choose...it would't be on your list. I sat on one at the local Trumpet dealer and was very impressed. (THANK GOD I didn't get to ride it!) Anyways...look at the new Triumph ST. VERY SEXY!

If you want to lean more towards touring the FJR1300 is hard to beat other than ground clearance and extreme sporty handling. Just turned 18,000 on mine. Gotta love the quick-change bags (incl top box) and power windshield. The new Triumph sure looks nice. I'd like a Firebolt Long with the Lightning bars/riding position, Uly tail/bags, and S3 fairing with ZeroGrav windshield. |

I'd vote XB12 all the way. The only other bike on that list I'd even look at would be the Tuono. I like the older SS Ducatis, but the new ones just don't do it for me. The FZ1 makes a boatload of power, but now has to be revved even harder to get to it and still comes in too big of a package. The SV has a great motor, but my compliments for it stop there. Too big, too ugly, too complicated. |

You mentioned touring - I just don't think the rest will be as comfy as the XB after a 600+ mile per day for a week - unless the rest of those bikes have redesigned their seats and bars - lol GT - JBOTDS! EZ |

Aprilia Tuono. Great bike, a little more comfy than the XB12, loads of power and handles great. |

The riding position on the Tuono is fairly upright. I rode one for a while and didn't have any issues with the seat. |

600+ miles in a day? - Not trying to start something - its just that I think that outside the FJR, BMW, and a few other bikes also so far not mentioned - that the bikes you are talking about are really only good at 350+ miles a day for a week, - unless your going to some type of aftermarket seat for the bikes. Especially the Duc and the Tuono - both beautiful bikes - but distance touring? - 600+ miles for a week type thing - also demands maximum seat and wrist comfort. Just an observation. GT - JBOTDS! What about the venerable Concours. 2006 is the last year of production. Many to be had at unbeatable prices.

Rubberdown's new ST. I can attest to the bike handling. Also has the quick change hard bags, top included. Very different, very cool! |

Buy a Ulysses. It's comfortable enough to do successive 700+ mile days, corners like it's on rails, has bags big enough to fit most of Rhode Island into and gets good gas mileage. Plus it feels better than all the others combined. Take one out for a long test ride; you'll be sold. |

Luvinit-as Rubberdown said above, that is his 9R, my bike had bad tires(short story off topic). The Ventura Rack system is awsome if you have never seen one. plenty of storage for a LONG trip. Check it out. |

I liked my 1999 R1100SA.. Otherthan the low MPG's. The bike was like ultra smooth. Couldn't even feel riding over train tracks. I wish I could get Ohlins for my Buell. |

I have a BMW R1200RT. It is a fantastic road bike, it handles well and it is very fast, not Buell quick, but fast. The 7.1 gallon tank gives you plenty of range. It is relatively light weighing in about 550 lbs. The six speed gear box is excellent, 5th and 6th are over drives, 0.903 and 0.805 respectively. I get more looks and questions at the bike hangouts than most. |

Of your original list and your riding goals, you could not do better than the XB12X. Definitely the most comfortable of all for long trips, and the most fun on twisty roads. |

The day I picked the RT up the weather forecast wasn't to good. High winds were predicted. So being one of ancients I didn't want to make the trip from Surprise to Tuscon (approx. 300 miles round trip), I loaded up the Buell on my trailer, turned it it in, loaded the RT and returned home. I know its sounds wimpy, riding the I10 in the desert can be a challenge in high winds. It"s not uncommon to hear trucks and campers blown over. That is my story and I'm sticking to it. |

I will vouch for the Trumpet Sprint ST... total blast to ride, torquey...yet has some revs to it... Will also wheelie quite well considering its nature...then again, you wheelie a can-o-tuna as well... But, seriously, if you can score a ride on a Sprint, try it out. I like the Uly, I like the Bimmer, BUT, I dunno, havent put any mileage ona Uly yet... So, barring that, my suggestion, it TRY out the Sprint.. Chase |

Find an XB12X demo and take it for a ride. I don't think the Duc SS will suit your needs at all. Just not a long range comfy platform, at least not the one I rode. |

RubberDown, I had BB power chip, Full remus, SanJose intake, KN filter. I would get around 32-33mpg-- I also kept the hard bags on all the time. |

Many great bikes listed but the XB12X is hard to beat at anything past a 200 mile day. I've been on the seat for four hours straight on two lane mountain roads through West Virginia and Virginia. Sport oriented bikes can keep up through the curves but not the distance, touring oriented bikes can handle the distance but not the curves. I have limited experience with other sport tourers. I tested the last generation Sprint ST. It was one of the bikes I was considering before the Uly. Great bike but ergonomics that are not even as comfortable as the M2, let alone the Uly. I have ridden a Concours and the leg position and seat is not as comfortable as the Uly. I have sat on the FJR and it gave me the same impression. Last BMW I rode on was an R80 so can't tell. All I can say is that my last trip on the Uly from Indiana to North Carolina was 820 miles. I rode to Cincinnati the first night. On Sunday I rode 720 miles, interstate and major highway to West Virginia then pulled off the interstate and hit two lane mountain roads for the next six hours. I popped back onto I-81 in Virginia and road interstate home to eastern North Carolina. All in all I left Cincinnati at 9:45am and got home 11:50pm. Fourteen hours in all, and other than been sleepy, I could have kept going. Sport Touring has never been better. |
