i recently read an article in american iron mag. regarding oil, the writer stated that he regularly uses mobil 1 syn. automobile oil in his big twins. Is this ok? does it have something to do with a seperate clutch /primary fluid . OR WOULD THIS BE suitable for buells ? |

the oil threads go round and round on band and type. Mobil1 is a quality oil. there have been concerns raised about using it in the primary. |

gmc310 - I use mobil1 15w50 auto oil in my bikes engine. It's hard to get nonbiased information regarding oil. However, from what I have been able to gather, the general consensus is that manufactures like to sell a special "motorcycle oil" because it allows them to charge significantly more. My dislike of being played for a fool is one reason I'm using the oil I do. The other is the convienence of being able to pick it up anywhere there is an autoparts store, or even a walmart. |

Oh what a slippery subject. Any good top quality oil, be it syn or fosil, changed regulary/manufacture recomendations or more often and you should not have any oil related mechanical failures. I do about 3000 miles on changes. I've been using(dino) Valvoline VR 20/50 high temp racing oil in my American air cooled vee-twins for over 10 years. No oil related issues as of yet. |

M1 is a legitimate synthetic oil. I would not use the gear oil in the trans, just the regular 15W-50. HD3 is a "pretend syn" group 3 oil, which appears to be made by Sunoco. Red Line oils are also real syns as are Amsoil. Good luck. |

Screaming Eagle is made by Citgo. Learned that the year it was introduced at P.O.T. training. |

Mobil 1 is fine in your Buell. I used it for years in my Big Twin and rode it over 100K miles with no oil related problems. |

speaking to the original post the answer is yes, that brand of lubricant (Mobil ONE automotive oil) is suitable for your Buell engine and transmission. works fine in my Lightning, and sportster likes it too. |
