well, it's been a bit of an ordeal, but i've finally got some good news to post regarding Gordon Buhle's "Steps to the Corkscrew" memorial paver. it appears that the engraving company up in Idaho "lost" the original order, which i placed back in late December. the order was for the original 12" x 12" paver to be placed at the "Steps to the Corkscrew" at Laguna Seca Raceway, and four replicas, one each for Monique Morales (Buhle), Pearci Bastiany (Gordon's best friend), and Chris Buhle and Loren Buhle, Gordon's brothers. when the replicas never arrived (which was only supposed to take four to six weeks) i began placing a series of calls, to the track, and to the engraver. it took some effort, but the oversight was finally acknowledged, and the four replica pavers are just now in the hands of the four folks listed above. the ORIGINAL paver SHOULD have been placed at Laguna Seca by now. this, however, is not the case. between the snafu by the engraver, compounded by the terribly wet weather here in California of late, the process of placing pavers at the track is behind schedule. however, i received a call from Steve Fields from Laguna Seca who has assured me in no uncertain terms that Gordon's paver WILL be placed in time for MotoGP in July. and for some MORE good news, the pavers aren't made of brick! altho NOWHERE in Laguna's printed or online material does it say so, and in none of the countless phone calls that i made leading up to the original order was i told, the 12" x 12" paver size is not actually made of the high-density brick material like we all thought, but, rather, they are made from polished granite, in a beautiful ruby red color. this piece of rather cool news applies to not only the original, but also to the four replicas, as well:
photos by Monique Morales thank you again to everyone who has had a hand in this deal - your contributions to honor our fallen friend are very much appreciated. i hope you all get a chance someday to visit the "Steps to the Corkscrew" at Laguna Seca and see what your generosity helped to accomplish. ride in peace, Gordon Buhle. (posted by request on behalf of Monique Morales) I want to personally thank everyone who contributed and donated to the paver fund. I was surprised when I received mine, but thankful nonetheless. I miss Gordon deeply and he will never be forgotten... Big hug to Ferris for following-up on this... ride on! Sincerely, Monique |
