I have recently been riding on a lot of gravel roads, since most of the curvy scenic roads around seem to be such. It seems that I have been missing out on an incredibly fun riding experience. The gravel roads are rarely traveled, so there are no cars to deal with, I can go slow without feeling bored, and I get to feel more "in-tune" with the bike as it sends me signals about the road. I was wondering if I am an oddity, or if other have found out that gravel roads are not the devil. |

nope, not alone -- learning how to ride on dirtbikes likely skewed my perception, but I like a good firetrail/gravel road alot! |

I love gravel roads. But my FJ1200 didn't. Enter the Uly. Me and my brother (950 Adventure) did 550 mi last weekend. About 125 mi. was gravel. He is a bit faster on the gravel. We both had a blast. The rest of the ride was twisties. I was either on his ass or he was chasing me the whole time. The Uly ROCKS! I absolutly love the bike. |

most sport bikes do not get along well with gravel roads. I remember exploring around Julian CA with some friends one weekend. They were all on cruisers, I was on a gsxr750. After a side trip on a gravel road I was a tweaking hard, while they were relaxed and laughing. The weight bias along with the geometry of a sport bike make gravel a bad idea. |

My ironhead does gravel roads pretty easily. The X1 slightly less so. |

You all need one of these. Its more comfortable at 60 mph offroad than it is onroad.

Love the back roads, dirt, gravel, whatever. Since I've gotten the Uly I can take routes I would never take on my touring bike, and have much less traffic and much nicer scenery. |

I can recall having BIG fun throwing my old S1 around dirt roads sideways . On street rubber. At least that particular Buell isn't like most sportbikes which get very squirrelly in the dirt. Haven't tried my S3 yet, I suspect the weight distribution will make it more of a problem but shouldn't be too bad. |

Jinance and myself recently road a small stretch of gravel, he a Uly, I a 9S, the road itself was very enjoyable, nice untouched scenery, and the XB really didn't seem to mind. And we know how the Uly felt! |

Buells make great gravel road bikes. S1, S2, S3, doesn't matter. They're all perfectly stable and secure blatting down the loose surfaced roads. Fun to torque comfortably around gravely corners, too. 72lb/ft at 3k rpm is like having articulated steering in your right hand.

Not the XBR's they are as dodgy as all hell. You just need to get an S. I just nail it and use the appropriate foot as required. Steel shoes would be better, but my hi-points work excellent. There are many dogs in North Georgia wished they never tried to chase that Sponge Bob Yellow Xb. (Message edited by kdan on April 27, 2006) |
