Diablo, That site has some pretty sick stuff. I think I might just get me a new full-face. Those Draxters are tight, bomber style. Thanks for the link. |

The helmet came that way, I actually bought it a couple years ago just for the shock factor of a bunch of stuck up know it all motorcycle instructors. I used to teach the equivalent of the MSF Course and a few of the other guys who preached safety out the yazoo really got to me. Don't get me wrong as bike safety is very important but you really don't need it shoved down your throat 100% of the time when around these guys. I have been told its stupid, childish and idiotic. I have been considering getting the bike painted the same color scheme as that would look real nice. I started wearing that for short trips around town and I now wear it around the city but on the highway I still use the full face one. Its all about the mood your in. I think this thread would have went much differently if the title had been changed, you would never have gotten the reaction from using the term "pee pot", "half-helmet" and any other slang reference to those kinds. |

I often wonder what veterans of WWII make of the Wehrmacht inspired motorcycle helmets. Ironic that most of them are worn by riders on Harleys. "It was actually a protective helmet ahead of its time -- it was also very efficient for its era." There were some eyebrows raised when the current US military helmet was introduced. The new lid that replaced the classic GI bucket bears a passing resemblence to the German helmet used in WWII. I don't care what anyone wears on their head, but I was outraged years ago when I saw a biker who painted a Nazi swastika on the tank of his Harley. A friend of mine commented that he was going to find all the trouble he was looking for... eventually. |

Don't go to any 1% clubhouse if those type things outrage you, or you and your friend will find more than all the trouble you're looking for. |

"Don't go to any 1% clubhouse if those type things outrage you, or you and your friend will find more than all the trouble you're looking for." Excuse me? Who said I was looking for trouble? Believe me, the last place you'd find me is looking for trouble in a biker clubhouse (or anywhere else). This doesn't mean I haven't been the invited guest of a local chapter. Odd that you would mention my friend in your response... he was the guy who invited me. |

Bueller, isn't it funny that helmet is made by a french company, for the European market, but it carries the US/nato star and bar logo? Like I said, the Europeans get all the cool 1/2 and 3/4 helmets despite a tougher safety standard than our DOT rating. |

So,I guess it's been a bit boring around here lately with this much time and effort expended on this subject. And I am suprised any of you guys where anything but a full face, never been hit by a nice big bug or a nice chunk of gravel thrown up from a passing big rig? Not to mention the love affair I have with my teeth and lower jaw. Or been through a nice rain or hail storm at highway speeds. That will take your skin right off. I have been on a couple of accidents with those nice beenie/half helmets and they did a half-assed job protecting the riders.I don't even trust those helmets that the whole front flips up as I have seen 2 of those fail. But YMMV. |

FMJ: the helmets that failed where "flip up" types where the chim bar swung up out of the way? I have an HJC "Symax" with a hinged chin bar, this is more than a little scarry thanks |

It's like the difference between a convertible, & a sedan with a roll cage, I know which one I'd rather be in when it flips! |

Last vehicle I flipped was a 3.5 ton panel van back in the mid 80s, walked away from that one with a couple of cracked ribs & some superficial stuff, fortunately I had no 2nd man that day as the roof on that side ended up touching the seat! As a truck driver, every day I see the stupid stuff people do with their cars, bikes, & yes trucks as well, so my first thought is always for my skin. I've had some extremely near misses over the years, some my own fault but mostly just innatention of other drivers, & believe me I know I'm not invincible. So what's the message? PROTECT YOURSELF, YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE OF YOU THAT YOU'VE GOT!

As odd as it sounds, while I'm a big supporter of Full face helmets and have advocated wearing not only a full face helmet, but also leathers, gloves and boots no matter where or when you ride. I also have a problem with either me or a government agency dictating what other people have to wear. People have to take personal responsibility, and not just when it comes to wearing helmets. I'd just prefer that if someone is going to wear a 1/2 helmet they wear a "good" one rather than a novelty item. Like I said before, some of these are very cool looking, but I just can't see wearing one on the street myself. |

When my Dad and I got our WWII 1942 WLA HD registared and back on the street, he decided to keep with the WWII look when riding it. We did some research and found out most of the riders wore either the M1 steel pot, or a tanker's helmet. To stay safe, he went and picked up an old DOT approved half-helmet he had bought years ago, and had it turned into a tanker's helmet. He had the leather ear pieces, straps, and other things added to it. This transformed the helmet to looking like an old tankers helmet, with out sacrificing safety. I agree, you are responsible for yourself, and even though PA has lifted the helmet law, I still wear my full face even on short rides to the store. I am not a huge fan of half helmets, I wear a full face anytime I am riding, except in slow parades on our WLA. |
