I have a chance of relocating to Alaska and I'm interested in how the cycle riding is up there? I know the riding season must be short do the the weather, or am I wrong? Any racing going on up there? Any info would be great. Thanks! |

It's going to vary quite a bit from region to region. Where in AK are you going to be relocating to? |

Check with the good folks at House of Harley-Davidson/Buell in Anchorage. They have always been responsive to my needs, and will certainly have the local knowledge you're looking for. Ride smart, have fun!! |

I grew up there so I know that, you are looking at about at best 5 months of riding time. More likely 3-4 months. Winters there can range from really dry and cold to really wet and cold. But if you like winter sports, it is a great place. Nothing like skiing under lights at 9pm. I have friend that still live there, generally speaking the bikes come out at the end of April and go back into storage at the end of September. |

So is it worth bringing my bike up to Alaska? How's the roads for riding, what about racing? |

definitely bring your bike. the REAL riding season is around 6 months, but there are plenty of short sweet warm spells randomly available during winter. Anchorage is a city, like anywhere else, but Alaska is only an hour away. when are you travelling? what is your employment prospect? dean. |

I suspect that would be a great ride down to see fullpower from Anchorage. I'm coming to Juneau this summer to visit with wifes family but alas not with a bike.

I'm in the military, so I won't know till the orders come out in a few weeks. I hope I get the orders up there. Looks amazing from what I can tell. |

I was stationed @ Elmendorf AFB, Anchorage from '88-'96. LOTS of good riding time if you can squeeze it into everything outdoors in Alaska. I remember many great evenings riding for 3-4 hours. (Light until midnight and later) At the time I only lusted at the "new" Buell S2 Thunderbolts. I was riding 1 of 3 XR1000s in Alaska. Bring the bike, boat, extra 4WD (to sell) DAve |
