I posted my resume online and within 1 day had a staffing agency contact me with a job offer.

Seams legit. Not the normal scam type offers. The run down is its a contract through them for FEMA. You get paid 15/hr 40 hour week,, just to standby. Ie there is no job to go to or place to sat at. Just be able to fly out in 24hr notice.

Once you fly into a disaster area.. pay goes up to 20/hr with lots of overtime options. Last season people were working the system and logging in 80-100hr work weeks $$$$$. The job is simple computer work and inventory stuff.

I always look at the bad before I count the good and wanted a wide range of thoughts--- couldn't find a larger range of people than buell riders!

The bad- I could be away from wife for 1-3 months at a time.. But would make enough$$$$ to fly home often.

I'd miss some gym time and bike time.

Probably not much chance for advancement.

School would be hard to do. Since I might have to just walk out from classes.

I've got about a 6 month gap from now till my wife is done with school... thus I'd be moving in 6 months, so even if I hang around for that time and take the chance on no deployments.. 15/hr is pretty dang sweet for hanging out at the gym and riding bikes! and if I got deployed the 20/hr with lots of overtime would finish off the last of my house payments.

can you'll think of any other negatives.

need to find out who pays for living conditions, per diem, and exact contract terms.

I was told that I would have a government credit card to buy plane tickets.

FEMA page

If you have any concerns about a contract placement then go directly to the source.

Whenever I come across one of these almost too good to be true jobs, I ask to be given some names & adresses of others who've done it. If it is too good to be true they'll snow you, if it's legit they'll tell you what you need; whatever, all the best, just keep your eyes & nose open.

Mike thanks for the link. I did at first try FEMA website. The job link you gave me is about the same.. But they didn't mention anything about needing CDL's.

I had CDL's once. Took one trip in my dads old beat up truck.. I sad no thanks.

I sure would like to see the contract. More so-- the clause about turning down a deployemnt. Becuase I am sure alot of people would jump on a job that let you sit at home-- then once they say pack up, the person would quit.

with out info my guess is that you may have to find your own quarters at the disaster site, with govt supplied being a bivwac or the like. ( you are USMC proly no sweat )

great idea about references if you can get the info, another + you will be assisting disaster victims on a deployment,

what are you in school for?

I was in school for ultrasound. But since we will be moving and the instructer was an . I changed major's. Untill we move.

Once we move. that school offers ultrasound or physical therapy. I'd rather do PT anyways.

The offer is probably bogus- I'm a retired fed and the U.S. government doesn't hire like that. Even for temporary positions the agencies do their own hiring and those positions are by statute limited to two 90 day and one 21 day "appointment" a year. A permanent position requires going throught the Civil Service System.

Went yesterday for the interview. Its a job through a temp agency, for a local company who has a contract with FEMA.

So its not a real deal FEMA job. But I did notice an email on the ladies desk -- in reference to needing more team leaders this year. So I will press for a higher position in the second interview.

Down in the south alot of places will only hire through a temp agency. Little to no benifits or rights. The company can let you go without any risk of suit.

FEMA is going through a great deal, as are all the similar Fed agencies -- contract, if that's what ya get, is likely not going to be dragged into the political dog fights which will no doubt continue for some time

as for employment rights, er, not sure what you mean, but a relationship between employer and employee is that of equals, I believe -- they make an offer, which includes some things and not others), and you accept it, or not, as you choose

(my post should in no way be seen as slagging FEMA or other fed agencies, btw)

Bomber, you're starting to sound like a PC adman.

No connection to persons either living or dead intended, to be used in moderation, always read the label, if in doubt consult your mum, don't blame me I only read this stuff out very fast!

I beg to differ.............My wife was just hired on to the Feds (State Department / Passport Judification) .... was hired after going thru 90 days with People First Staffing ......50% of all Fed job Placement in S.C. goes direct thru staffing/Temp agencies.

Its a real deal job. But they company has a contract with FEMA for the hurrican season. I'd be working for the company through an temp agency. No contract would be signed by me. The job is from june till november only.

Which works out since I just need that time to get my wife done with school and then she'll be making more than we need.. So Buell needs to make an s3xb, for next year.

I asked for a leadership role and was told they would pick 25 people for such roles.
