If Buell ever needs a phone guy, I'll send my resume in so many times it will crash their fax server and they will HAVE to hire me to fix it.

If you have the T's (Talent, Training, Tenacity and Teamwork) I'd sure as heck send it in.

Buell has attracted some of the most fascinating people you can imagine and trust me, there are some pretty unconventional "how did you get here?" stories.

Buell would, indeed, be an awesome place to work. Lots of high caliber engineers and other great thinkers there. I've thought of applying there, but am committed to the work I am doing with Deere at the time, and also just started grad school, so no dice for a few years. I'm yet young though.

Will,
My advice to you is decide what career path you want to take and who you want to work for, and do whatever is necessary to achieve it. By all means apply, and dig around a bit. There's lots of us engineers on the board. Ever thought of Deere?

Alex, thanx for the advice. By Deere do you mean John Deere? even so school will be ending very shortly and I need a job. If you would be interested I can send you a copy of my resume also. I guess it never hurts to have contacts.

I think I am going to make myself a pain in the arse with Buell HR until they give up and give me a shot. and make sure I always have a copy of my resume with me cause you never know when you might run into Erik

Dr. Mr. Freak, GO FOR IT. I have NO FORMAL sales experience, sure, I have sold a couple cars, a couple tires, I sent in a resume for a sales position at a new Harley/Buell dealer in my area, told some people about it and was told about a second dealer who has an opening, no, not a formal job offer, but a somewhat of an offer nonetheless, so go for it, who cares if they say no, there may be another job there that might do you better.

Tq,
John Deere indeed. I started with Deere when I was 19 as a co-op, a ripe old 25 now as an engineer. I've learned lots there in my few short years, plenty more to go. Ask some of the old 'uns that knew me as a young pup. They are an excellent company to work for- a great range of products, lot of new and innovative ideas and products and a very global company that doesn't just build combines. I'll be shooting you a PM shortly, be sure to check on that.

I can tell you that I do see Erik a few times a year, and I'll be damned if I don't sell him a skid steer one of these times... Worst part is he always wants to know what WE are coming out with... The factory is a few short hours away.

Alex:

I don't need to tell you, but John Deere is right up there with Harley-Davidson on the "Best Companies to Work For" list.

Hey.....those pictures above?...those aren't slipper clutches are they? If they are, perhaps you can go to the front of the line.

Hey, I ain't no engineer, but I do have BS and a lot of it! Talk about experience, I have 64 years of it!

If needed I could engineer a broom for ya. I could be one great parts driver for ya. I do do windows (and Mac).

Where do I send my resume? Would I have to relocate?

All kidding aside, if I were in the job market, I certainly would be looking at position with either Buell or Harley. I am sure they are both good companies to work for.

Aaron; as usual, beautiful stuff. There's something to be said for practical experience. Couldn't hurt to send off your resume. There'd might be a spot somewhere in the skunk works for someone that, like you, can whip a nice, functioning part out of a block of aluminum.

Aaomy,
I'd send them a resume. Along with pictures and descriptions of the work you've done. It certainly wouldn't hurt.

You do some beautiful work.

I can easily see someone like Aaomy working in their skunkworks building up one-off bits and pieces for proof of concept projects and whatnot.

I'm tempted to send a resume in too. I've got an EE not an ME degree, so I'm probably not what they are looking for, but who knows.

But seriously, if anyone is thinking about applying, remember this. All places have their problems. Thats why they need to hire you. To help them fix their problems. The last thing you want to do is go work for Buell because you love their bikes, and end up not being able to enjoy riding them anymore because it's too much like work. Not saying it will end up like that, just something to keep in mind.

Language issues?

The winters haven't been that bad in recent years here.

I've still not gone more than 2 weeks without being able to ride the bike to work this winter.
