2003 XB9R w/race kit and ~10K miles. Picked it up Saturday in Tomah, WI which was halfway between me and seller (BadWebber "TheTick") in Minneapolis in a little 4x8 u-haul trailer with barely enough height clearance. We had to compress forks to get it inside! (top left pic)

Took it to a friend/co-worker/buell racer's house to work on it with his stands and tools (top right pic)

Did a quick check of everything and pulled off blinkers, lights, mirrors, reflectors, chin fairing, pass seat, pass footpegs, and put it on his trailer (bottom 2 pics) to take to a local shop (Badger Motorsports) where its going to get safety wired, new Pirelli Diablo Corsas, number plates, bellypan, and a look-over/fluid check/change.

Headed to Jennings to do a trackday with Private Track Time mid-April (who in GA or FL wants to join me at the track???), planning on CCS Midwest May 5-7 for the first race. Picked up new Teknic leathers too : )

(yes, this does make 5.....)

Go get 'em Dora!!

Glad to see you have the frame pucks, you might want to think about some fork/swing arm sliders too.

A steering damper never does any harm either, especially on the track.

Congratulations Dora,
I can see the smile on your face from here. I will try to make it up to Jennings for a track day with you. Just let me know which day. The only thing else that I think you might want to look into is a chain conversion for gearing.

Dora,

Waaaay too cool! Another racer in the "family!"

What mods you looking at doing?

Do you have access to Shawn Higbee for advice on suspension setup? With the right springs, she'll treat you right without putting huge $$$ into forks/shock.

The little beast will likely have to be re-sprung on both ends (you being a lightweight and all)

Hey Buellgirlie, I love the Jennings track. I'd be interested in going in May. We have plans to do a track day at Barber Motorsports in Alabama but I'm not sure when. Let me talk with my friend and I'll get back with you about this.

I have an 03 XB9R that I thought about turning into a track only bike.

I think you need to paint it up in kawasaki colors and see how long it takes for someone to notice!

nate - like someone who's just getting into racing, has spare money for something like a paint job............

on another note, has anyone ever tried to remove a power commander from an XB9R? I've got the bike in pieces right now trying to trace everything its hooked into. bah!

i did get my race numbers in the mail today though : D : D : D

D-
Not sure that you have to remove the PC. I think you can just turn it off. Not positive, but I seem to remember we did that on my nephews Nine.

Anyone know for sure?

GJ - i'm trying to remove it so i can sell it to get moolah to fund the racebike : ) plus, i've been advised to remove it by folks who know way more than me as it supposedly sends weird messages to Buell race ECM.

PS - no cheering on, just a shakeout run to prepare me and the bike for CCS races in May. Jennings dates are April 14-15 with http://www.privatetracktime.com/ If you are good at pulling wheels on and off XBs that's something i'd like to learn and get better at - so maybe pit teacher, rather than pit slave? : )

Dora:
the pc3 usualy connects:

2 wires power & ground [ snip and tape ]
do these one at at time and tape them well}
2 sets of connectors for the injectors unplug ( 4 connectors check markings )
2 connectors for the 02 sensor 1 male 1 female

a stab for the throttle position sensor snip the wire to the pc3 (green it think) and tape it off

If you have access to a laptop and can link to it, zero it out and that takes care of it it then acts as a pass through

this is the [PC3]
I dont think that the DDFI has changed that much from the 01 models

pm me if you have questions....

Oldog - i printed off installation instructions from power commander site as well. that plus your tips should get me through it.

the original plan last night was to pull power commander, set throttle to closed, hook up laptop and reset TPS. easy sneezy. i can do this myself and be in and out in less than an hour. HA HA HA!

however...... i never quite made it past the "remove power commander" part of my plan as the previous owner did a really nice job tucking, taping, ziptieing the install - so it was hard to tell stock/aftermarket and hard to undo the wiring (plus i'm a total engine newbie) it was also cold in the garage so all the wiring was a bit stiff, so i kept unbolting and disassembling more and more so that i could get at other wires.......to the point where all bodywork is off, the rear subframe is off, headlights are almost off, airbox is off, breathers are all disconnected, battery is disconnected, grounds are disconnected, etc etc etc. hopefully it all fits back together : D

i wasnt kidding when i said the bike is in pieces......i quit at midnight. back at it tomorrow night, with supervision from another buell racer friend - took tonight off!
