When I bought my ST1300 last year I kept my '99 S3 because it is just so darn much fun to ride. I also remember a lot of people lamenting that special vehicle that they wish they never sold. My wife was P.O. because she just doesn't understand. She never really liked the S3 anyway. Well here is my problem; a neighbor of mine has lusted over the S3 for a couple of years. Last weekend he offered to buy it. Normally I wouldn't have given it another thought but ever since I rode the Uly during Ferris Bueller's latest adventure I was thinking of them. She went along with me on the test ride and liked it. The biggie though is that I just got my eledest daughter graduated from college and is getting married next fall. The son is a sophomore in a private college. Needless to say buying a Uly right away won't happen. I bought the ST as a long-distance rider which it is very nice at. I don't think I'd use the Uly as a regular tourer. If I sell the S3 now it'd make it easier to pick up a new Buell down the road. The problem is that it may not happen for a couple of years. |

Sell the ST and the S3 and buy the Uly. believe me the bike is schizophrenic. Put the bags and the tall windshield or Laminar Lip on it and go everywhere the ST would go. Hit the twisties and you'll be carving up the corners like the S3. It's win-win from my perspective to say nothing of the resulting enhanced marital bliss. |

Personally, I have no love for the looks of teh S2/S3..no offense to any..I jsut dont like it... SO..there is my 2 cents.. I think BrotherBuell hit it on the head... I want a Uly BAAAD...and now that I am moving to texas...I have no idea what I am going to do...probably make a couple vehicles disapear, and get another bike.. Anyway....get rid of the S3..and since I know nothing about the ST, I wont comment there..but get the Uly Chase |

I would keep the S3, only for the fact that if you get rid of it, you set the precidence with the little woman, that you can indeed survive with only one bike. The best plan would be to go ahead, get the Uly as soon as possible, sell a kid if you have to. That way you'll have three bikes. You can then sell the S3 to your buddy and you can then convince your wife you did it just for her and you will still have two bikes. That's what I call a win-win. |

Man Mike, I can't see you being Buellless. That's just not right, it might even mess up the alignment of the planets. Is selling both and getting a Uly an option? Which neighbor, is it Daryl? Brad |

Brad- It's not a done deal by far, I just thought that I'd throw this out while I'm mulling it over. It's a 19 yr-old that has been a friend of my younger daughter. His dad is a Harley rider. I almost completely absolutely love riding the S3 and would probably regret not having it any more. That darn Dave Stueve forced me to ride the Uly demo he had down here last fall. With the mileage on the S3 I'm reluctant to use it for the distance rider that I had been doing. Since I'd cut him a good deal, the first thing I thought of you and maybe swapping the Works shock with your stock unit if you are interested. We haven't talked any deal yet. |

You could always sell it to him and maintain first right of refusal if he decides to ever sell it. You'll still have a connection to it, he'll maybe keep it a little nicer knowing that you might one day be buying it back. Just a thought. |

Mike, I'd hate to encourage you to sell just so I could get a great shock! That's a tough one. I really don't know what I would do. Brad |

Mike- That's exactly what I told him. Most of the reason I'm considering it is due to tight money and the wife being unhappy about 3 bikes (insurance). If it was pure money the other two would go but I'm angling for the future too. Since she was mostly unhappy with the S3 and kind of liked the ride on the Uly, I'm thinking of when I get the boy out of college and have money again. If the Uly doesn't happen I could get my S3 back if he tires of it. |

Keep the S3. Looking at your profile it seems you have a long relationship with the S3. If money is tight sell the ST. If you sell the S3 you better sell to someone out of your area. Otherwise every time you see it go by you will long to have it back. It will seam like the longest wait. Al |

Geesh Mike, Send the son to a cheaper college (MUN)!!!! That S3 made it all the way here from Iowa and back and rode so nice. I was riding it the day we got stopped by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Grumpy took the fall in my Convertible with yourself and your son crammed into the back. Keep the S3. |

With the mileage on the S3 I'm reluctant to use it for the distance rider that I had been doing. As i recall, you actually gave me greif, and told me that you never wooried about your Buell, how reliable it was, just because it has milage, what has given you the change of heart, did your Buell actually fail you?????? Just wondering R |

Bill, Darn it, now you're bringing up fond memories. I think he was seriously looking at St.Johns, until he met a girl. Roger, I hope you realize it was all in good fun. Shoot, I gave JProvo a bad time about riding his Blast all the way from California to Millwaukee for the Homecoming. I respect someone that will do that even though I probably wouldn't have. Actually no, it hasn't let me down. I was still thinking of what rides of distance I may take it on this summer and leave the ST in the garage. My wife actually likes to ride on the ST and even though I don't really like to carry passengers it's nice to have her along once in a while. |

I checked my manual and it says it's a 128. Send me your address and it'll be in the mail. It's in good condition, I just changed it as regular maintenance. |

The belt should fit. They are both 128 tooth. The part numbers are different due to revisions. Brad |
