Oh well, At least Erik caused a stir and lord only knows how much attorney money the big four wasted pre-drafting the protest letters.

I must agree! The Gasman for 999 seemed out in la la land. Maybe they needed to do a little more pit practices?

Dave Despain just said it best baby;
"not a great day at the end of the day for the Buells, but that story will surely have some additional chapters to be written as the season go's on".

GO BUELL!!!

Anybody have any idea what the mechanical issues were?

Sorry to see Mike Cicotto out so quickly. McWilliams looked really solid up until that CF of a pit stop. (Of course, in their defense, Duhamel's crew looked equally incompetent after his wreck.)

The running order coverage at the top of the screen was maddening- one time "McWilliams- 52nd", next lap "McWilliams- out", next lap "McWilliams- 51st" etc. Same think with Penzkofer. Seems like the only camera time Buell got was in the pre-race show and during/after McWilliams' bad pit stop.

Dave Despain summed it up pretty well. I figure these bikes are going to be seriously competitive at the slower tracks and they'll be much better prepared for Daytona next year.

Great effort. Go Buell!!!

Looks like McWilliams had some troubles in the pits. They were having troubles with the front tire. Then the bike fell off the stand. After that, they couldn't get pressure into the front brakes. He went back out but had no front brake. Into the pits and retired for the day.

On the bright side, he was a solid top 10 until the mishap. If the bike would have held together.......oh well, there's always the next race: D

It seems thats how it always is for the Buell crews. I bet if the big pocket of HD would help Buell with AMA Roadracing like they do with NHRA it would be a diff story!

I'd say it was a good thing Buell didn't get more face time... I got laughed at quite enough thank you.

Ah well... thats what happens when you custom make a bike for a race, instead of working with your showroom models like everyone else... not enough test time, not enough experience, and all in all... just not enough.

Halbard winning Daytona is a science that Honda, etc have been doing for a long time. If the bike wouldn't have dropped off the stand it would have been interesting to see where it had finished. It takes alot of joint efforts from a whole team to make it work. It had appeared that Buells time in effort went into Mcwilliams bike, because the others had not finished because of Mechanicals or other mishaps. BTW You said that teaches Buell a lesson in making a custom bike rather the working with a showroom bike like everyone else?? Do you call those factory backed not customs??? Boy I sure would.... 350 thousand is alot for a show room CBR 600. I think it sucks but thats racing and it doesn't happen over night. Its gonna be a long road.

Despain said, early on, that the race was under protest no matter what the outcome. Despain also said that many of the AMA officials no longer have their jobs because of the Buells. Also mentioned was that Honda, Suzuki, and Kawasaki, had withdrawn from further competitions. I didn't understand the logic with on that.

First race, the bikes ran well. They will be very competitive as the year progresses.

On one of the pre-race shows one of the commentators interviewed McWilliams in the Buell garage. The camera panned to a bike on stands with all the plastic off it. The frame appeared to looked a little wider, my guess was for fuel storage. The swing arm assembly looked different. Other than that looked like just about all the XB's I've seen. (I know I will get flamed on that one. Save your fire for someone else.

Speculation is a fun thing. Until it is published what the breakdowns were we will all be guessing or Monday morning quarterbacking this.

I have a feeling that a couple of the major sponsors of the race may have put pressure on Speed TV, especially with its commentaries. Hey, I may be the only who thinks that, I guess I am partial to American iron especially Buells.

It was that damn ZTL brake. I'd be hard pressed to change that wheel in a hurry. Still best front brake I ever had. Next race...Not a bad showing for 1st time out.

I can't see how anyone expected Buell to win or place high in this race. To my knowledge, this was their first test and a DNF or the like was expected (at least to me).

I expect them to improve each time they run, assuming the Nippon cry babies let them run.

I like the whole process and can't wait to see it unfold.

Hats off to Erik and the boys.
