Oh so many bench racers, so few out on the track! And talk about running a series, forget it Jack! To all the real racers, HELL YEA, miss being out there with you guys. Thanks for the memories! |

This idiotic term 'bench racing' cracks me up. This is a spectator sport. If people aren't free to critique it, talk about it, debate, and/or discuss their likes/dislikes for a given race then why don't they just race privately and keep the results a secret? Like any other pro sport, it seems to me that half the fun is the discussion after the event.

you have to give them a chance, i mean people say you have to practice more, the only way to practice for the daytona 200 is to race it and then be ready next year, not many practice sesions are 200 miles long. McWilliams said he was not used to the bike with the low rev limit, had to change his style and was still getting used to it, had not ridden banked turns, ( which apperently is not as easy on the rider or the bike as i had thought ) and it was the drive lines that failed in the bike due to rear tire chatter ( at least that is what i have read, slipper clutches should be out for next race i hope ) all in all, i think McWilliams and the rest did the best they could, that is all we can ask. not many, if any new teams come out and clean up, in any sport for that matter. |

I guess I am no "bench racing" connoisseur since I can't tell the bench racers from anyone else commenting on the race. So, how does a slipper clutch work? I read that the R6 comes with one of those as stock. |

I am a put up or shut up kinda guy. I don't get to the track much anymore. I have a way of dealing with the remarks from the Jap bike crowd though. I simply sit on their ass up in the canyons until they crash. In the real world of riding twistys the XB9 can hold it's own any day. In fact my CHP buddy rides an 04 R-1 and you should have seen his face when he found out I had a 9R and not a 12R. Classic. |

How is that helpful? Why would anyone want that on a street bike? |

Cause: Ricky R. Rickover of Rice Rocket Racing [R6] has one on his bike it says so in the CycleRagMag, and every one knows that the bike makes you go fast the spec sheets say so, Sides Ricky won the BFE GP in 2004... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ usefull? who knows like you I guess the clutch prevents rear wheel braking by the engine, and prevents the hopping under heavy downshift loads. on the street in the event of brake failure it might suck... |

Guys, Go over to the XB board and read the real deal. No problem with the ZTL at all, just the bike fell off a stand because one of the other teams tried to help and used a stand that didn't fit! And there were some porous clutch hub castings that were junk. Never had any bad ones before during testing. There won't ever be any again. Slipper clutch would be nice but it isn't needed. And a dealer team running as high as 7th place first time out means the bike is big and slow? Rico and Crevier moved from 15th and 16th to 11th and 12th, and that sucks? What wierd world do some of you live in? |

Don't put any stock in my original post on this, I am learning as I go. That was the first motorcycle race I have ever had an interest in; much less watch all the way through. I said they sucked early in this thread, but I was reacting to my initial disappointment coupled with my ignorance of to what extent they were supposed to have sucked their first time out. The more I learn from these threads, the less they appear to have sucked. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the season. I still think people ought to be allowed to post their thoughts on it even if they are wrong or some of us just disagree. They shouldn't be called names for it either. |

slipper clutches slip when torque is fed back through the drive line. As in compression braking. They are adjusted via spring tension as to how much compression braking they will allow. think of it as a one-way ratchet drive. It allow torque to be applied in one direction only. |

>>>They shouldn't be called names for it either. You are correct. Don't get sucked into the mire of the group that subscribes to the "if you don't agree with me 100%, you suck". They are like bubble gum on the sole of a sneaker. No one is thrilled about the result from Saturday. Smart people are optimistic based on what they saw. I saw a motorcycle, introduced less than 60 days ago, SPANK (check out my pictures of how fast a Buell accelerated away from the competition in the Horseshoe) some of the best bikes in the world. One or two things went wrong, hundreds went right. Court |

the mentality of many sports fans continues to confuse me -- they buy a ticket, or pay for cable, and think they are instant experts -- even more confusing are those that get hurt when equally knowledgable and accomplished beer drinkers mock them in bars due to the efforts of people that none of them know -- I'm sure I'll undertand this when I get older (and with any like, I'll never get quite that old) Thanks for a great showing, East Troy -- looking forward to many more! |

I think the back-and-forth (good-natured)hounding and discussion is all part of the fun. I mean, unless you are a member of the team, it's all for entertainment, right? That said I only watch sports with close friends, family, and/or people that refrain from using the pronoun 'we' when referring to their favorite team. The repetitive, gooey attaboys and "Go Buell!"s make for a supremely boring read. If that is what it takes to be grown up, then there is no hope for me. I'll say something sucks when I think it sucks. I will also admit when I am wrong or jumped the gun. To that end I think Anony has done a fine job of beating down the criticism on point. Besides, I watched five hours of racing on Saturday, and I just learned what a slipper clutch is (thanks Diablobrian!) so I am now an expert. Ask me anything, and I'll have an answer. |
