Hello all, Anyone have any insight to the Pontiac GranPrix GTP, 97 year model. I have a chance to get one for 1400.00, with only 110,000 miles. Starts and runs like it is new. Goes through the gears with out notice. Just wondering what your thought might be. Thanks, JIM |

Tough one. I'd have to know the person that is selling it and something about the history of the car before I bought anything with over 100k. However, for $1400, it doesn't seem to be that much of a gamble. |

Wife and I had a '98, and that car was tight. Fast too, 240 h.p. Supercharged 3.8 liter. Heads up display, killer stereo, can't beat it, I say go for it. |

As the son of a very experienced GM service manager (thirty-two years and counting) I would have to recommend it as a good buy. The 3800 is an outstanding motor and there have been seven in my family (four were/are supercharged). Both of my brothers are approaching on 100k miles on their supercharged Bonnevilles and my mom's old '98 Bonneville SSEi got to 150,000 miles before trading in on a 2003 SSEi. The other NA 3800's all made it past 200,000 with two going over 250,000 before retirement due to other problems, not the drivetrain. And there was a guy in the Columbus Ohio area who was running quarter miles under 12 seconds with a modified GTP. |

if the s/c is still in good shape. then it would be ok deal. Don't expect good MPG's. That boost is too fun not to use. |

Two words to check, SERVICE HISTORY, the mileage is much less important than most people think, a well maintained high mileage vehicle is usually a better buy than a lower mileage one that hasn't been looked after. |

The 3.8 litre engine in that car is one stout beast, quite reliable, the only parts I ever replaced when I worked on domestics was the water pump, alternator, and on the supercharged models the intake gaskets would leak. Great cars. |

The supercharged motors had two problems: -oil leaks, from press built up from s/c -the nose cone bearings on the s/c make noise, more annoying than anything else, never saw any gernade. Other than that the 3.8 is an awesome motor for $1400 I don't think you can go wrong. |

3.8 liter is the best GM six ever built IMO if it has the 3.4 than there are several issues with realibility however for that price you can't much go wrong |
