Well I was out stuntin on the PW80 and my LTZ-400 this weekend having a great time until I crashed on the 80. I dont wear gear on these bikes cuz I am in the dirt(I dont need lectures, the pics will tell you why) and normally going low speed. Well there is a not so oval jogging path behind my buddies house and I decided to get in some hot laps on the 80. I went real hot into a corner, left the pavement and the bikes wheels came out from under me, I went straiht to the asphalt shoulder first, my knee has a huge gaping hole in it and my left hand(pics) has a bunch of scrapes, the palm of my right hand is tore up pretty good as well. I am still fully functioning just sore and feeling like a turd. If you want to see the damage here is the link http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=37&post=608307#POST60 8307. |

Yep, and I can tell you from experience...the knees take FOREVER to heal.. Best thing..clean it out good..wrap with gauze..then an Ace bandage, it will help keep the gauze on there..use ointment..and let it breathe as much as possible every day...will take about 2 months to heal wll the way... Good luck... Chase(who has had motre road rash than most pepole I know...) |

use biafine wound emulsion to prevent scarring (if you care). it's available at the bigger (chain) pharmacies, usually you have to ask for it though, they keep it behind the counter for some reason but you don't need a prescription. |

I feel your pain, I went through nearly the exact same thing on my buddy's Z50 a year or two ago. The little ones bite just as hard as the big ones. |

Biafine is good stuff, we use it a lot here too; it's good for sunburn as well. I used to get road rash in my wild & reckless youth, with a Suzi TS250, my parents despaired; Now I'm an old f---er I take longer to heal, so I take longer to dress, if you know what I mean, rather a cow's hide than mine! |

The PW-80 is a deceptively fast little bike! I too fell prey to one! It had been sitting for a while, and the brakes were draggy...back locked down on me while flying low on a test run! With this much weight on that little bike..there is NO chance for recovering! http://www.godzuki.us/SCUFFED.JPG |

I'm posting it here as a Public Service Announcement. The absolute best thing for road rash is Bag Balm. It's for Cow Udders, but they sell it at most drug stores nowadays. Relieves pain, reduces scarring and speeds healing. There is nothing better.

For those that care, the medical term for chunk of flesh getting torn away is an "avulsion". Or so I remember reading in my medical record after a motocross "incident" I had in Spain in the early 70's. The scar is still there. Jack |

Hope you heal well. No scab=No scar You need to be careful about getting a bone infection due to bacteria entering at the Knee wound site. |

Roadthing - looks like you were crash testing chaps. Is that recent? Happy healing. BTW...I second the bag balm advice. Great on any scratches, cuts or abrasions. |

Thanks for all the get wells, I will be ready for MBIII no doubt! Even if I can barely shift. RT, had a similar experience with two German Shepards when I was young, not being able to sit is terrible. I got the wounds clean within 5 min. of the fall, been soaked in the tub, cleaned again and have been in a wad of neosporin since, I let everything air out for about 30min. between bandage changes as well. This aint the first time. It's great yall sharing similar stories, I cant wait to laugh about this one! (Message edited by new12r on March 07, 2006) |

A couple of links to cycling road rash care, there are many web pages out there on the subject. http://www.louisvillebicycleclub.org/jan04/roadrash.htm http://www.arniebakercycling.com/pubs/Free/Road%20Rash%20ABC.pdf http://www.bikeforums.net/archive/index.php/t-75929.html (Message edited by mikej on March 07, 2006) |

Ouch! That sucks just to look at it! Speaking from way too much experience with large abrasions the bestest treatment in the world is Spenco 2nd skin. A bit pricey but worth every cent. Clean the scrape very well, place 2nd skin sheet on top. Remove the top carrier sheet and then bandage with gauze or telfa pad. The 2nd skin is about 80% water and steril. I've used it on hip scrapes (big ones), it works so well you can sleep on it! It keeps the wound moist, breaths but keeps air off the scrape. Also GREATLY reduces weaping. You can find it in well stocked drug stores or a good bicycle shop (the must fall alot). Brad |

Put a lift kit on the 80, If you mail me your shock I can raise the seat height by about 4" and that makes a world of difference in the ride. |
