Something to think about. I was just downstairs while my daughter was at the computer doing Google searches. Guess what she was searching for. Me. She was putting my name in and reading the stuff that Google spit back. My first thought of course was "what is she going to find." It's not that I write awful stuff and publish it on the internet. It's just all the good places on the internet, like badweb, have a close family feel. The are places where you can share your troubles, and your friends will listen to you. The problem is that that feeling creates an illusion of privacy, when in fact these forums are very public. It's not that there is anything wrong with saying "my daughter is driving me nuts," when your talking to your friends. But it's not something you would want her to read. |

you can add some type of computer format to your internet postings that prevent google from storing that info. I've learned the hard way. Not to post anything that could be linked directly to you. For example using your REAL name as a login name. I was on a car chat board and a nut case who was selling cheap bogus go faster parts. Didn't like that I called his parts cheap. They guy tracked down my parents phone number and called them. Almost bought a plane ticket--- to kick the sh1t out of him. |

"you can add some type of computer format to your internet postings that prevent google from storing that info." That would be the following in the x header section of your posts: x-no-archive: yes Unfortunately, I've forgotten how to get that into the headers on usenet posts. And it won't help with forums like this one. I was mature, to say the least, when Al Gore invented the internet. I quickly decided to use my real name and email address. I don't go anywhere or do anything that I would be uncomfortable with doing that. I generally give less credibility to and have less respect for people that hide their identities on usenet groups that are positive and socially constructive in nature. If a crazy feels a need to come after me I'll deal with it. Jack |

Only time I use my name is when I'm purchasing something online. Otherwise the most I give out on the forums is my first name and even that is rare. |
