caught a very brief look at a pentagon police bike today as i crawled along the traffic backup on I270 after that wicked accident this morning. It had police markings and was strapped in the back of a white Pentagon Police pickup. Very tight and compact - almost naked but looked powerful as hell. I drive around the perimeter of the pentagon frequently and never seen one on the road before

there was a semi between us and I couldn't get another look but I'm guessing it was a BMW. Man, it was sweet. Anybody know the details?

One of the six BMW R 1100 RT-P ("P" for police) that BMW donated to the Defense Department Police Department are ready for action.

The CHP, and some of the local depts, are riding those BMWs. I rolled up next to one a couple years ago, when they first started riding them. It was a cold day, in the high 40's (that's the equivalent of about 30 below to non-southern Californians). I asked the motor officer how he liked the new bikes. His reply - "3 words - Heated Hand Grips!" and a big smile.

Jason,
How does your brother like his Bmeer? Did he mention that it is fast and it handles well?

He loves it...Funny though he doesn't talk about speed or handling. He talks about how nice it is to ride, he actually uses it to commute from Livermore to San Jose.

I will see him today and find out his thoughts on speed and handling. We are all probably going on a ride...so he will have a chance to ride mine. I will let you know...

I can tell you it is SMOOTH and comfortable....

I have an 1100RT and it has 52,000 miles on it. I love it.

It came with heated grips, and once you have them you can't go back.

It's a wonderful bike, like most German vehicles it's long legged and likes to run at hiway speeds. There's a V1 in the tankbag. No dealer for 300 miles, but it's easy to work on.

Very reliable, and great fun solo or 2-up.

So Bill, my brothers answer to your question....

he said, "It's not the fastest bike on the street, but it'll do enough to get you in trouble"

He doesn't like to ride hard, or fast. He likes to go on trips. He did say that he LOVES it...and his 540......for him I guess it's BMW all the way.

Jason,
Thanks for the response. I will be getting an R1200ST in about a week so I will be able to do some comfortable cruising.

I used to own a r1100sa. Butter smooth ride. Couldn't even tell I went over train tracks or bridges. Could actuall watch the forks go up and down and not feel a single movement.

But that was with 1500.00 ohlins

I could and did ride the street bike up mountian gravel roads. Just adjust the shocks and the bike was still smooth as a dirt bike.

Mr. Buell needs to ride a BMW for at least one day.
