Went to a local dealer today to check out the BMW 1200 r. This bike sure has a lot of stuff for an alledged naked street bike. I saw about 15 things I would take off immediately. Also 17,000 seems a bit stiff. Any body else seen one? |

I saw a K1200R at the Vancouver Motorcycle Show. I love the trick front suspension (I'm always a sucker for complex mechanical stuff). Not a bad looking bike, but it does look kinda like it was designed by a committee--and it's quite long, not exactly my idea of what a tight-twisty corner cutter should be...

It looks about as appealing as a bowl full of smashed 455holes. Then again, I have no use for BMWs, so I might be just a little prejudiced |

I perused a BMW dealership the other day waiting for tires on my cage and I gotta say they have some nice stuff...Pricey but well designed, IMO. I really liked the 650 and will be test riding one in a couple of weeks for S&G's. At $8900, for a BMW, I thought the price was fairly reasonable too. I looked at the 1200r, but I already have a 9s and I don't need to go any faster, so what would be the point? |

While not to everyone's taste the K1200R is not unpopular in the UK and will waste any Buell - straightline/twisties/sweepers you name it. 160 bhp + 11000 rpm = not to be trifled with.

"While not to everyone's taste the K1200R is not unpopular in the UK..." Yeah, but you can say the same thing about jellied eels. |

12R.....Myself, Glitch and Shred were in the N. Ga. Mountains on Hwy 60 and a K1200 with full faring blasted by us on a straight. The road got very twisted and tight so we caught up with him. All three of us passed him where it got VERY technical. He almost bit it twice trying to stay in front. He saw nothing but our a$$ ends for the remainder of that road. It was extremely fun eating him for lunch. When we got to the gas station in Morgantown, he full of reasons why a bike 1/2 the horsepower owned him in the twisties. I know, I know, it was probably his lack of ability but it was fun none the less. He was an a$$hat at that. (please no flames about HP and speed) just telling a true story about a guy on a bike that he couldn't ride. Classic case of running out of rider. We wouldn't of stood a chance with someone who could ride that bike to its ability. |

North Georgia used to be my stomping grounds. Unless you've ridden there, it's hard to explain to anyone just exactly how technical those roads can be. I have a buddy who is a very good rider and does track days a few times a year on his GSXR-1000. Once we get past Highway 400, when the real twisties start, he has no advantage over my 6 year old Buell until the road straightens out. I've surprised a few repli-riders out there myself. |

I guess I was just a little dissapointed when I actually saw it in person. Pictures do make this bike look better. High hp, bmw rock solid reliability, I was interested. I guess the something different from the asian road rockets appealed to me too. I wonder if the dealer would take money off for parts removed at time of purchase? |

It sorta looks like an elongated Buell with BMW's specialties added (single-sided swingarm, telelever). |

I also am intrigued by the alternate fron t sus[pension (tele forks really do not reflect 21st century engineering, or even late 20th) -- looks like it would make a very nice gentleman's express, but, sheesh, looking at it makes my teeth hurt! |

I really liked the K1200S (the R with the fairing) until I was told it is about $18k. I test rode it after being on my M2 for about 3.5 hours. The bimmer was real comfortable, plenty of power and all kinds of goodies. Pretty cool adjustable suspension, abs, and heated hand grips...among the many other options. I actually test rode it twice. |

One of the guys at the local Starbuck's has one, it is quite a machine, very comfortable, good riding position etc. Even at 5'8" I was able to put both feet on the ground. The guy who owns it claims that it handles very nicely. One of the magazines recently called it a Busa beater. A Busa rider was ogling the bike and was trying get the guy to run him. My guess the Busa guy was in his 30's and the Bmeer guy is in his late 50's or early 60's. Common sense prevailed on that one. Besides Arizona has the criminal speeding law (20mph over) that will get someone in huge trouble. The BMW website claims 163 hp and a price tag of about $14,500! The North Georgia crew mentioned that they had seen one on the mountain. Remember local knowledge and riding ability really comes into play around there. All said, I am waiting to see the K1200GT in May. The not so naked version. Who knows, if my feet reach the ground. Luckily, the BMW dealer won't allow a lot for my 9er, so it will still a part of me for a long time. |

used to own a 1999 r1100sa.. very very smooth bike-- ultra nice Ohlins shocks made the bike as smooth as luxury car. I miss that alot. Anti-dive front end was also nice for stopping. And the ABS saved my ass once. Look around and find a used BMW becuase once they drop in value they mantain the value. I was able to ride mine for a year and then resale it without a loss. |

12R, No chance in the world that one of those would keep up with a Buell in the twisties. |

Certainly not with a rider on the Buell who has a modicum of skill and short of having Rico Penzkofer on the big long heavy BMW road burner. |

That race one looks awesome. I would probably seriously consider it if I could test ride and it didn't have a BMW price tag. |
