Ok Ok,the Norton's not mine. I did the frame restoration and repairs to correct the Tank fit
ment along with having the glass redone and repainted.
I may end up with it though.

I call BS, no way, not in a wheelie in 3rd gear. Yes I am sure the Triumph will have the fastest 1/4 mile but I bought my Buell for the corners.
There was a reason the Japenese took over the bike market in the 60's and 70's |

I am another of those Buell/Triumph owners.Had a Daytona but my wrists didna like it,was way fun.Still have a Sprint ST and it is a great bike and a blast to ride,the triple with a pipe is an unholy sound at high rpm.Just different from the Buell,not any less fun.
Brad,come on out for the Superbike races in May at Infineon.Bob-n-Deb will be staying at my place and most likely Al Lighton.E-Bear shows once in a while also.I usually have a spare bike around.
And I already talked to Bob and told him to cut that horsesh-t out!! |

I saw that video about a month before I bought my Lightning. I really want to like the Speed3 but the finish is no where near as nice as the XB. After sitting on an 05 model Speed3 I felt disgusted. I was thoroughly unimpressed with the front end configuration. The Buell just feels like home. The speed3 is available in an all white edition this year that does give it an added appeal. Honestly I would rather dump any extra dough into a S1 or S2. My XB will be around for a long time. NUTS |

Just for perspective . . .
Motorcycle.com has a comparison between the TL-S and the VTR1000 from '97 with video of Shawn Higbee running the quarter on one wheel in 12.85 seconds on the 114hp TL-S. Also on motorcycle.com is the '97 test of the T509 speed triple that only managed 88rwhp and a best quarter mile ET of 11.78. In the '02 test the speed triple pumped out 114hp, but a quarter mile time isn't listed.
A speed triple outrunning an S1 is certainly believable. A speed triple outrunning an S1 on one wheel is a bit of a stretch. A speed triple outrunning an S1 while pulling a stand-up wheelie as high as the one in the picture is venturing way out into BS-land. |

This is the 250 CZ I was riding when I smoked a Triumph 650 in the quarter mile.  (Of course it was not on pavement or even a road, but up the firebreak on a mountain, and I never even got above 2nd. gear.(it actually happened. It describes real events.) |

My friends Triumph was a very nice bike, single carb., high pipes, big rear sprocket, universal tread tires. But it was not the best dirt bike. Buells are not designed for the drag strip. If that is where you want to race don't buy a Buell................Oh, this race was over thirty years ago

The only thing that leaks more oil than an AMF Harley is.........Anything out of Britain.

I had a '78 FXE Super Glide that I put 72,000 miles on. It never leaked a drop. Not all AMF Harleys were problem bikes. |

The point I was making, but I guess not well enough is that a motorcycle that was not designed for a certain competition should not be expected to excell at that competion. I own a Buell because it excells at what I like. I have never had the urge to go to the drags and if I wanted to compete in drag racing the Buell is the wrong design. |

I under stand John and am only feeding to the fun of this thread. There are bikes for every venue of riding and the video only served to fuel the typical bickering that boys do.
I have been through this many times and choose to make fun of it rather than waisting time beating dead horses.
I really don't think you can buy a Bad Bike these days, only different.

Bob, I got what you were doing, I wanted others to get what I was saying. You are absolutely right, I love motorcycles and have owned many makes through the years. The three cyl. Triumph was at the top of my list of bikes I considered when I bought my Buell. I do miss the dirt bikes though, I know I'm too old for that, (don't heal as fast as I used to). |

Back in the day, I witness a guy pull a high-10 second quarter mile run on the rear wheel. One heck of a rider. I believe it was a Z1 he was riding and he out ran the bike he was riding against. I believe it was a Suzuki 650 I-4 of the day.
I like Triumphs. If I didn't like Buells more, I would be riding Triumphs. One day I still may get one. I really liked the Sprint and the Tiger, but they just aren't my Uly. The Uly may not have the straight line speed of the Sprint, so what. The Sprint can not haul as much stuff, it isn't as comfortable, especially two up, and it can not go off road as well the Uly. The Tiger would fair better in these measurements but still no match for the Uly. The Tiger is not faster than the Uly in the straightaways, I believe top out it is slower, but close enough that any given day either could win the drag race. (The Tiger was on my short list before the Uly came out)
As far as for the twisties, meet me on a mountain pass and my big orange dirt bike will wear out a Tiger and hang with best Sport bikes out there. Triumphs really do not handle as well as most sport bikes available, here the XBs just flat out rock.
If I buy a Triumph, it will be one of their Cruisers or Classic like the T100, Scrambler, Rocket III, Speedmaster. The T100 looks like a fun daily rider.
If I want straightline speed, the Japanese are unmatched here on the street. So, if I were going to by a straight line monster, a Busa (new for '06 custom White) or the new ZX14 would be on my short list. With the right rider, not me, these bikes can beat a Speed Triple on their rear wheel.
This is why Triumph just can not seem to find its niche in the modern market. They made a good choice to stick with three cylinders engines like the one in the 675 Daytona, but they have much faster competition, and if you are looking for streetable bikes with handling, the Firebolt and Lightning are better bikes.
Now, their classics and cruisers would be what I would buy if I were to own a Triumph. Their Cruisers out handle most of their competition and I think the Rocket III is just awesome. A real contender in the Power Cruiser Class. I would hands down prefer a Bonnie Speedmaster to an 883 Sportser. The Bonnie is just a better bike. And for the classic look, the T100 or Scrambler would be the ticket for me.
As my collection of motorcycles grow, a Speed Triple will not make the cut, but there are other Triumphs at the top of the list. |

Carlos, I can agree with allmost everything you said with the exception of handling.
The Daytona/Speedtriple/600's are amoung the best handling bikes made. Most cycle mags agree.
After putting thousands of miles on several Buells, I can honestly tell you that I ride the triple just as fast in the twisties as I ever did with any of the buells I owned.There has been no change in the riding order of thing with my Buell buddies and any Battle trax's that I have done since brand change has not changed the out comes.
I still think for the real world it's 90 percent rider and choice of Bike in most venues are just choices.

As has been said before, You have to work to find a genuinely bad bike these days. It is a great time to be a rider.
Triumph has their thing, I dig the thruxton, and the new speed triple. My brother has a 60's 650 twin. Triumph made
my "short list" too. Along with the z1000 kaw and sv1000. |
