Jon, As promised, here's the story of how the "bike presentation" went down and a few pictures of the event. Carl came home on leave on Saturday afternoon, All he wanted was to kick back, have a steak with the family for dinner and relax. I took care of the steak part of the equation with a big porter house, his favorite, done up on the grill. After dinner, we retired to the garage for a good cigar and a couple of beers. I had three bikes under their covers in the garage. I made it a point a couple of times to mention that my daughters Blast was in the storage shed. I was hoping he would pick up on the numbers thing as there was still 3 bikes under covers in the garage. It took a couple of "The Blast is in the shed." statements before he figured out that there was still three in sight! As we were sitting there with beer and cigar in hand he finally asked "I know what two of these are, but if the Blast is in the shed, what's under the 3rd cover?" I told him to take a peek under the last one and check it out. As he slowly peeled back the cover, the first thing he saw was the red tail of the S2. He commented that it was a really nice color. After he had the cover most of the way off, he said "This is a really nice S2, who's is it?" I didn't say anything for a few seconds, pausing for dramatic effect as he finished removing the cover then said "Carl, it's yours if you want it." It didn't sink in right away. He looked back at me with a confused look. I have to forgive him as he was pretty tired from the 12 plus hours on the plane. I said "It's your son, after I saw the look on your face after riding mine, I had to find one for you." He finally started to get it. Needless to say, he was stunned. He couldn't take his eyes off it. It was almost like he was afraid to touch it. He just kept looking at it and saying things like "Wow!", "Holy crap!", "I can't believe this!", you get the idea.. Once he got his breath back he finally sat on it and just grinned. As I had hoped, the old man was able to pull another one over on the youngster. Here's a couple of pictures of the event. Also one of him riding the S2 the day before he had to head back to the base. He didn't go far, just down the block and back as it was pretty cold but he still had the same grin as before!! Jon, I know how much you hated to let your baby go but rest assured it is in a good home. If Carl ever decides to sell her, you have first right of refusal. There is no end date on this promise. Thank you for providing the means for a very special day between a dad and his son. The next big day will be when he is home this summer and we can go for a long ride together. Pictures to follow for that event too. Brad First full look. I can't believe this! Still in shock. Proud new owner and prouder Papa. First time in the saddle Just before leaving the garage, notice the "grin". First ride! No he's not doing a smokie, it just exhaust! Remember, it's cold out!

We share wrenching duties also. I hope you guys can enjoy that too. Now if that Minnesota weather will only cooperate. Stay safe both of you. Bob |

Brings a tear to my eye on top of all the other tears. I am thrilled to know he liked it so much. This is the first thing to make me smile for a second this week. |

Looking forward to that first DAD/SON ride. Our BRAG club is putting one of those on. If you all feel like riding down to North Carolina in May, let me know. I looked at your profile Brad, I see you are from Mnpls. I visited your city for the first time in Aug of 2004. I was VERY impressed. The people were great, the university was beautiful, and the area was just wonderful. I kept telling everyone how much I liked it and every last one said "You haven't been here in the winter." |
