Owners manual is your friend. Big Twins have 3 separate fluids: Motor oil, tranny, primary. Primary has to be checked via the same way as a Buell. |

owners manual is in the mail. I figured the primary would have to be checked via the same method. But what puzzles me is I can only find 1 oil tank-- couldn't locate the tranny oil. |

Engine oil...X every 3000 - 5000 miles. Tranny oil...X every 5000 miles. Use BelRay Gear Saver Hypoid SAE 85W-140...easier, smoother shifts, red color for easy distinguish from other oils. Primary oil..X every 5000 miles. Use HD primary chaincase lube. Unless you are adjusting the clutch at the inspection derby cover, just fill with 1 quart at the primary chain inspection cover(after inspecting the primary chain). Save time and messing with derby cover gasket. Drain plug under derby cover, bottom primary main cover. No need to check unless it is leaking, making loud noises, or disappearing between changes(case seal problem). |
