Don thanks for your service. Having spent awile living that sort of life the "When my time come my time comes" thing is easy to live. Gotta have that tude sometimes. I know that I am glad you made it back ok but also want ya around for awile. I guess the point is that we sometimes forget that there are others who care for us that are affected if we go. Oh and yes I have (and still do) exceed the norm on the bike (even on a blast you can do it) still have the when it's my time it's my time tude but also realize that I have to temper it sometimes. Ride what ya want have fun with it stick around and tell us about it. Poke fun at us we will poke back in fun. Have a great laugh and maybe sometime have a sitdown and trade stories then go riding and tell others our stories. Keep coming back. Hell you still kept the Firebolt name that has to say something. Who knows If / when I get the next bike it may or may not be a Buell and I may need your support.

Dana P, I know that when it comes to racing the R-1 and the XBRR are in different classes. My comment about the R-1 being faster was not based on "class distinctions". Just simple numbers. Im a simple guy.

Olddog. I have been at redline in fifth gear and had my buddy on his 04 R-1 wave bye-bye as he left me in the dust. My guess is 170mph. The stunning part was just how fast it left. It was alos visible more stable at high speed. The new R-1 LE is even faster and more stable!! (Guess based on ohlins suspension).

Yes I know apples and oranges. But WOWOWOWOWOWOW

Don -- let me add to those who have thanked you for your service --

a generation ago, there were news stories galore about line animals returning to the world and wadding themselves up on new motorcycles -- the stories continue to this day -- it's tough NOT to behave that way, from time to time (sadly, I'll not be getting a free satrbucks from FiremanJim . . . . . ;-} )

Ride safe, sir, and welcome home -- here's to finding the bike of your dreams, no matter what it is!

What ever happened to the list of folks who pledged, and paid their pledges to the racer's contengency fund? I always found that interesting reading. I think a lot you will find that way also.

JH,

I keep trying to tell you, roads ain't racing venues. It's gotta be on a track if you want me to race. Trust me on this; it's a good thing. : )

More on the "ignorance" thing. Let's interject some analysis shall we?

"At $18,000 (the LE R1) will rip the shorts right off the XBRR at half the price."

1. $18K ain't half of $31K; $18K is half of $36K, a full $5K more than the suggested retail price of the XBRR. To assert that $18K is half of $31K would be an exaggeration (next to lying), or would it just be ignorant?

Now to the performance issue:

The XBRR weighs 360 LBs absent only its fuel, or 388 LB full wet. That is straight from the horse's mouth during the dinner on 1/23 with Erik, Steve Anderson et al in Dallas, Texas. The YZF-R1 LE weighs in full wet at around 440 LBs. Yamaha's advertised 383 LB "dry" weight excludes not only fuel, and oil, but also the battery. The typical full wet weight for an R1 is around 50 LBs above factory reported dry weight. This is in line with the same dry weights, better described as "shipping weights", that Buell reports for its production street bikes (385 dry ==> 450 wet).

2. So then contrary to the above assertion, the XBRR is a good 40+ LBs lighter than an R1 LE. Would it be ignorant to assert that a significantly heavier machine "will rip the shorts right off the XBRR"? I think so.

The XBRR is reported by Road Racing World magazine as having 150+ RWHP. If true, the R1 may enjoy a few scant HP better is all.

3. So contrary to the above assertion, the YZF-R1 LE does not appear to offer much if any greater power than the XBRR and it is significantly heavier. Would it be ignorant to assert that a significantly heavier, comparably powered machine "will rip the shorts right off the XBRR"? Absolutely.

But as I too am ignorant of the true performance of the XBRR, the "150+ RWHP" figure could well mean a lot more than 150 RWHP, or it could be an exaggeration. But even if it is an exaggeration, given just the reported figures, there is not enough difference to support any kind of assertion that "At $18,000 (the LE R1) will rip the shorts right off the XBRR at half the price." In fact the converse may well be true. We don't know, on account of we are ignorant of the pertinent facts.

Who cares?

This is a Buell site, not Consumer Reports. If you don't like Buell get out.
