Last year for Father's Day, my wife and kids thoughtfully got me a Buell "Zone" leather jacket (from the HD/Buell dealer in Myrtle Beach who's evidently still trying to get rid of their Buell merchandise) at a good price. It's a nice jacket, and it fit me really well, but it didn't have any armor nor any provisions for adding any. I had been scratching my head as to how I could add some myself. A couple of months ago, Shred posted about the good results he had from Syed Leathers in Orlando, so I wrote them and asked if they could add armor to my jacket. I received a quick response back with a rough price estimate, so I sent the jacket down right before Christmas. I got it back last week and I'm very pleased with the results. They added forearm/elbow armor, shoulder armor, and a back protector and it pretty much looks like it came from the factory that way. They also altered the sleeves to fit tighter (to help hold the armor in position) and moved the zippers to clear the new external armour pockets. Last but not least, I had one of the new, large Buell patches added to the back. They sewed a clear plastic layer over this to protect it. Total cost of the alterations (including the armor) and shipping was $195 which I thought was fair considering the quality of the work. Buell patch with clear covering New leather exterior armor pockets I'm not 100% sure this was the wisest investment I could have made (it may have been better to spend the extra to get a Vanson) but since my family gave the jacket to me, I figure it was worth the money to bring it up to par. I'd highly recommend Syed to anybody who needs leather alterations. (Message edited by whodom on February 08, 2006) |

I like the looks of the Zone jacket and they seem to be made from fairly thick leather. The lack of armor was a factor when I was looking at one in the dealer showroom. Your solution looks good, and the double layer of leather in addition to the armor should make for a very protective jacket. |

Very nice. Been wondering if I could do that for my leather jacket. |
