I'm discovering something. In 2003, I rode my '99 M2 to Rolling Thunder in Washington D.C. Rode down from southern PA with friends- 2 Heritage Softtail H-Ds, and Fat Boy and a BMW. We had rain. At a gas station a few miles from the Pentagon, we took cover for a while. Lots of Harleys under that canopy besides my friends. I went and took a leak and came back to find a bunch of people standing around and looking at- the M2! I walked up and started unpacking dry jacket. One of them said it looked "tall". I said "Yeah, go ahead and try the riding position." He sat, and said "Damn, if I had this I'd kill myself with it." The rest laughed and about 8 sat on it before we left. They liked it. Quietly. Moral: We have something unique here. Keep quiet if they give your Buell disrespect. It's good and we know it. No matter what they say, they're wondering. We really don't have to say anything. We have something noone else has- we do NOT have to defend it. A little smile and motor away. We got the good shit. I read stuff in the classifieds about chopping Buells and selling stock parts off and people laughing at our bikes. That is crap. Look, if you don't like your Buell, sell it. If you don't like it because people say things, the problem isn't with the bike and you're never going to be happy on it. Sell it. Otherwise, it's unique, fun, and like nothing else. Hell, enjoy it. You're a Buell guy. |

I think people will start respecting Buells and their riders. I am on a few sportbike forums and after they see the videos of us riding and get to know the people that ride them it makes them think that these things might not be so bad after all. |

Riding a Buell is a bit about being different. I run up at Neucombs Ranch upon occassion and am one of the quicker guys on the road up there. It never fails I will pass a dozen or so bikes on my way to breakfast. Once parked I get off and away from the bike as quick as possible, sit back and watch the show. It always goes like this..... Guy gets off the latest (and recently passed) inline four and walks over to the Buell. He usually stays about five feet back (as most people don't get to close to something they don't understand) and quietly takes in the bike. He then walks away with a slighty confused look on his face. Once in awhile one of these gus will find me and start asking questions. It usually goes like this. Hey is that your silver bike? Yes it is. Is that a Buell? Yes it is. I thought those had less than a hundred horsepower. Yep not quite a hundred. It is at this point they get this classic look over their face that all but says "Shit I have the latest greatest bike and just got passed by a slug". I love my Buell........ Still wish it had 130 horsepower and a six speed tranny though...... |

The Six speed would be nice but the Hp really does not matter to me. I love being one of the few Buell owners, I like the fact that not everyone has one and that most of the folks that do are unique like the bike. |

New 12r, I have a 9R and have to ride it at near redline just to keep my buddy on his R-1 in sight. 130 horsepower would mean not having to work the motor so hard. |

Skyguy It would be better to have more HP on straight roads but in the mountains where the Buell was made for HP does not even come into play. You should be able to get so far ahead that the guy on the R1 cannot catch you in the straights. (Message edited by mountainrider on February 04, 2006) |

Mountainrider, In the really tight stuff I reign supreme against my buddy on his R-1. But you start talking about 90 to 110mph turns and he is pulling me out of the exits. Of course he is also a CHP motorcycle officer so he is very fast and quite skilled....... His R-1 also seems more settled in te high speed stuff. |

the rider in front there could find him/her-self in a world of hurt. Head and shoulders were in the oncoming traffic lanes on several occasions. even if your wheels are on the proper side of the line it won't help if there is a truck or van coming the other way running close to the line. Be careful out there. Have fun in the twisties, but save racing for the track. |
