That's an excellent ad...everytime I ride I encounter at least 10 drivers I'd like to put in a room and force them to watch that over and over with eyes wired open "A Clockwork Orange" style! |

Actually, this isn't the first add for motorcycle safety recently. Last year they were running an add that had a guy sat in a car at a 'give way' junction. He was turning his head looking left to right and left to right whilst the voice over is saying "now you see him, now you don't, Now you see him, now you don't." Then there's that almighty crashing sound, and the camera pans around to show a motorcycle and rider laid on the road. It's clear the car driver pulled out, and the voice over is saying (whilst the camera is still fixed on the downed rider), "Now you do." Rocket |

Wish the US was as proactive. This is the media page but there's an entire mainpage for the Think ads... http://www.thinkroadsafety.gov.uk/campaigns/motorcycles/motorcyclesmedia.htm#vid eo |

I think motorcyling is generally frowned upon here in the us. Instead of having awareness ads such as this, the mind set is just not to ride motorcycles, they're dangerous. |

Buellin, You are correct. IMHO most Americans are afraid of their shadow. They are unable to do the math and succomb to their emotions far to easily. Example: Most people won't go Paragliding, not even tandem. The reasons they give? They are scared. This is despite over 15,000 flights without injury to myself or anyone else. Americans are on the whole full of fear. Western Europe has over 50,000 certified paraglider and hangglider pilots. The U.S. has under 10,000. Sad how many people cant seem to get out of their box. |

I think that a lot of it boils down to status. After WW II there became the competition of the conspicuous consumer. Every car had to be bigger and bigger was always better. People who drove small cars or motorcycles were looked down upon. Look at houses and how ridiculously large they are getting. As a conservative I have always looked at efficient ways of doing things. I drive reasonable vehicles whether cars or cycles. Gas mileage is important as is energy efficiency in my house. I don't begrudge someone buying a car with a 300+ horsepower hemi, but I wouldn't (even though it would be fun). I not only ride cycles (both motor & non-motor) because they are fun but because they save energy. Until Americans wake up and realize that cycles aren't toys but transportation, we will be fighting the attitude that motorists have of us. |

Its stupid the way people act sometimes. Some people need to grow a spine. They act like chicken little when they see something on the news at night. |
