Val Rossi got to test the F1 Ferrari this past week at Valencia with the rest of the F1 circus. He was ninth fastest. Made a pretty serious impression on the boys. I would suspect he may have a serious offer for next year. |

He's been doing that for a while and yes, he was only one second behind Shummi, but those final tenths are the hardest to find . He also tested with Subaru in a WRC car... |

Oh... he was also running a V10... Which should be a couple seconds faster than the V8... |

That is incredible given how hard it is to control an F1 car. Rocket |

Yesterday he was 12th but move to within 1/2 second of Schui. Wonder how air tight his Yamaha contract is? He certainly won't be on a bike next year. Only a handful have been sucessful at both bike and cars, Surtees is the only one to win both championships. Before WWII you had Nuvolari and I think Rosemeyer who ran at the top levels of both sports. Hailwood ran cars but never won a championship but he as pretty quick as I understand it. Any others? |

The guy's a freakin' human gyroscope, It would be a shame to see him on anything slower than F1 or MotoGP!! |

Rossis' Yamaha contract ends this year. Schummis' contract also ends this year. Rossi will be doing Formula 1 in 2007. Italian driver in an Italian car. The crowd is going to love it. (Message edited by jima4media on February 03, 2006) |

I'm gonna love it!!! For me, the coolest thing in the Barber museum is Surtees MV next to his F1 Ferrari (V-8)... Sensory overload for sure. Don't want to start a thing about "top level", but Joe Leonard did well in AMA and USAC. Eddie Rickenbacker on board track bikes then cars. |

Leonard, I had forgot about him and Rickenbacker. At that time that was very much top level racing. USAC and before that AAA produced guys who could run with anyone. Things are more specialized today so it is harder to move from Indy to Monaco. I do miss the days when a guy like Mario Andretti would run sprint cars, Lemans and then go out and win the 500 and F1. |

Hate to admit it,and he didn't do F1, but A.J. Foyt won everywhere he raced. Dan Gurney and Parnelli Jones sure covered alot of bases too. Mark Donahue...sigh Still have a nagging feeling that we're missin' somebody... |
