Ok, ill start... i think its a shame to destroy a perfectly good bike thats fast and handles well. i also feel bad for the early models that get destroyed, there werent many made and it makes them collectable... BUT!... I think the buell choppers are cool looking though. when i first saw one, i really liked it. it doesnt look to be very comfortable for very long periods though... anyone have one that can share how comfortable yours is??? id like to know |

while hand built choppers exibit a "constructors" skills and in some cases showcase unique ideas, Kit built choppas, even with wild paint schemes are closer to legos. a lot less creativity IMO. One from col a, 3 from b,etc. some folks do a nice job of the assembley though, in fairness to them in reference to my view point, chrome, fringes, and bling don't do it for me I believe that its a waste of motor cycle to cut up a Buell for a choppa. The economics tend to drive this, its cheaper to buy and destroy a tube frame buell or an OLD XB, than to buy a crated engine, it amuses me to see adds for these bikes when they go on the block with banners advertising 100 hp or better, and the buell stuff is off of them, they will be equipped with drag pipes and a hamcan or force winder, most of the s2/m2 builds that I have seen are saying this. The few that are wreck salveges thats ok, some folks take the view that making a Buell a track bike is about the same. Most of the privateers start out with modded standards. I don't like it that much seems so wastefull but hey I like the fuel injecion system, most hard core guys think it sucks.. who ever you are and what ever you ride, ride safe...... As much as I don't care for the whole chopper in a box thing. I really don't care what these people want to do with their money. If they want to cut up a Buell for their project than so be it. As a person rebuilding his bike, the abundance of cheap parts is nice. No matter what they say. I will never call what they make a chopper. Custom? Sure. To me the word Chopper is saved for those modifying a stock bike. Maybe I'm over romanticizing the whole chopper thing. But to me, a guy in his garage with a welder, grinder and a shovel head is much more of a chopper builder than any of these OCC wannabe's |

Every few years I succomb to the looks and image of the custom cruiser and get a bug to have one. Then I ride one and hate it. The last "chopper" was a Big Dog. It looked so cool. It rode so crappy. Bad turning, bad breaks, and acceleration that may have been harder than my buell (X1 at the time), but just transmitted horribly to the rear wheel. I must be an idiot that can't learn, because I do the same thing with weed. Every couple of years I try it and get paranoid and miserable again. |

Spotten1: That's O.K. The problem is when the word "hours" is substituted for "years". Choppers? great eye candy, every now and then, amazing workmanship and detail.THEY are welcome to THEM. Three side effects of too much marijuana use: Short term memory loss. Long term memory loss. Huh?

herb was never my gig. for that matter no drugs ever were, outside of a period when i was gravely ill (lacerated intestine, glass ingestion) and smoked for about a half-year, in eastern europe. opium also helped me through that health horror,as well. tough part was weaning off of it. yow. it works for pain though, i can vouch for that. otherwise, 'herb' only ever made me feel like a i missed an ight's sleep, so i find it's cheaper just to miss the proscribed night of sleep to get the same effect. i'm giggly anyway, so i never really felt any compulsion to become more giggly.... i always just liked beer and wine...no hard likker, no drugs.... beer and wine never made me start fights or walk into things, which is more than i can say for hard likker or herb.... |

I'll do whatever I want with any of my motorcycles regardless what anyone anywhere thinks about it! In fact, I just might try and make a sport bike out of my Bourget and a Super Motard out of my Road King, so there. Frank |

let my opinion be added to the stack of opinions that don't matter, please -- I'll quote my late, much missed, fathe in law, when asked what he'd feel if, after he passed, someone were to take his original '31 Ford Model A and hotrod it? "Hey, it won't be mine any more -- why would I care? there's thousands of Model As out there" now, if someone were to cut up a Crocker or sumpin, that would be denying the world of one of a small number of classics -- my M2, on the other hand, is more than adequately represented on the planet -- if a chpper is what I wanted, a chopper is what I'd make |

I have dreamed of owning a HD since I was 8. I used to drool everytime they left the bar a couple houses up the road from mine and went screaming by. But since I bought my XB i have no desire to ride anything else, my wife wishes i did though. I like a lot of the custom bikes out there, and will probably build one some day just to see if I can do it, but again, it doesn't excite me that much after riding my XB. Even if I decide to build a bike some day, I will NEVER disect a perfectly good machine, whether it be a buell or hd. A wrecked bike, being one that the frame is damaged, is the only thing I would part. Anything else is a waste. Whenever I see a chassis or a list of parts for sale that are obviously whats left of a chopper build I wonder why someone would do that. At least I can get a good chassis to start my race bike out of. |

Personally I would not cut one up unless it was wrecked, frame twisted, etc, etc, etc and couldn't possibly put back the way it was intended. That being said everyone has different tastes so "fill yer boots" |

Rather a chopper, I would like to to build a true custom, frame on up. I would look like a chopper and that would have a V-twin (whether it was an H-D, S&S). It is all what an individual wants. Seen some fantastic customs and choppers and seen real ugly, dirty stockers (not meaning rat bikes, that is another story for sure). |

I think riding should be about the ride, I am FAR less concerned with trying to look cool. I like Harleys, but am not of fan of choppers and would never own one. ***Warning rant ahead*** I think choppers are I'll handling, form-over-function, status symbols. Most are overpriced pieces of trendy, A$$-Jewelry best suited to accessorize a biker costume. ***Rant Over*** Diff'rent Strokes for Diff'rent Folks |

Quick question, how is a Buell being chopped up and put into a frame a kit bike build? There is a lot of fabrication that goes into building these chops and yes not all people have the tools in their garage to construct every part needed so they go to an aftermarket company and buy these parts, I guess it is kind of like when you own a Buell and get a pipe from American Sportbike, or any other part you would buy to make your bike stand out from the rest of the Buells. Just because you purchase a few parts that are bolt on pieces does not make these kit bikes or bolt together bikes. It takes a lot of work and time to build a chop that is similar to the image you have in your head, and not all the pieces needed will be sitting in your garage. This is why we have the aftermarket, so we can buy peices for our bikes that we do not have the means, time, or money to develop and make. It does not bother me that Buell are being used as doner bikes, it is just a bike after all and the owner has the right to do with it what they please. If this is that big of a deal maybe a save the Buells fund should be set up so all the abused or unwanted Buells can have a home sitting in a garage never to be riddin. I for one, kind of like the fact that people are chopping the Buells because it is going to increase the resale value of my bike and there seems to be an unlimited amount of like new parts for sale. I say let people do what they want with their bikes and maybe someday if you sell your bike you will be able to get the payoff you owe on it and get another great Buell. Now I would have a problem with people chopping Buells if they where not being made anymore, but since it seems like the company is growing more and more every year, I think this is helping them sell newer bikes since the older ones are getting harder to find which will make them even more valuable. Also, the tubers being chopped up will be a thing of the past now that the two top Buell frame builders are making a frame that will house an XB frame. Also, they are starting to make softtail frames, so I think you will see people riding this chops longer distances then 500 miles a day. Yes a few of my friends have these bikes, one makes the frames, and they do not just hop from bar to bar, these people are not all fair weather riders. I remember a time when Buell's where not accepted, but now it seems like a lot of the Buell community is having trouble accepting a new breed of bikes and builders. |

Without the diversity (read modern choppers) of todays motorcycles I would have much less to laugh about. I often stop at little dive bars and once in awhile get crap about my "rice burner". Usually this dose of crap is dished out by the owner of a really pretty, way over priced boutique chopper. Funny how only a "real" Harley enthusiast always knows it is a Buell. Heck even the Hells Angels think the Buell is a great bike (I heard it firsthand right before they beat the crap out of the poor loudmouth that backed into it in a parking lot). BTW one of the "Angels" was on a lightning......... |

Skyguy, I know what you are talking about, the guy that does my tattoo's is an HA and he thinks they are awesome. It was funny one day in his shop a few of his fellow HA's were there and they told me they would kill themselves on a Buell. LOL Also, on a trip I took this past summer, a few of us rode about 4K in 9days, we had a break down in the middle of now where. The HD dealership could not get us in for a few days, so we called an HA we meet the night before at a local watering hole. He came out with a trailer picked the broken down machine and took it back to his place. He replaced the wheel bearings and got us on our way. The funny thing was, he said that no evolution motored bikes are aloud in his shop but he thought the Buell was cool and would help us out. Talk about a great guy. If you are ever in Kalispell MT, you should check out the Alomosa Hay Shed, it is the name of his shop, he builds old school chops for a hobby and is a lineman for a living. If you have never taken a long road trip, you need to you will meet some of the nicest people around when you are on one. Can't wait for this years expedition. |

I was looking to buy a buell and chop it using the redneck frame. So I found a real sweet 2001 m2 with no miles for a super deal. Now I will not be chopping my m2, it is just too much fun the way it is. Although if I came across a salvage buell or somethin in dire straits then I would chop it. - anyway, the guys I ride with have ninjas and track bikes, so if I had the buell chopper I would just be riding around by myself, going slow and upright Mutants are fun to look at. Buells are fun to ride. I think I need one of each. |

Again, Buellgrrrl why do you have to judge and stereotype people by the bikes they ride? Why are you so high and mighty you can look at a persons scoot and know who they are, how they ride and if they beat their wife and kids....You my friend are a motorcycle racist...and for some reason your opinions and tastes are what you judge others by...I really hope this is your online personality and isn't really how you treat people in the real world...If it is you should really open your eyes to the good people out there on 2 wheels...It doesn't matter what you ride as long as you ride and have a good time...Once again, your opinions don't make you right and don't make others with different tastes wrong....Get a grip.... Larry here is my sterotype. Buellgrrrl is a Buell wannabe, she wants to act like a corner carver and because she owns a bike, well at least we think she owns one who really knows she may only have the t-shirt and well she seems to have access to a Buell related website, this might explain the reason she is acting so irrational and ignorant. Sounds like a Buell wannabe to me. Because if she really was passionate about two wheels it wouldn't matter to her what people are riding and no assumptions would be made. She has shown poor or let me rephrase, she has shown no class in her comments in the classifieds section. I for one feel sorry for someone who is so simple minded and thinks that all these people are wannabes and that they only ride from bar to bar. The sad thing about this is that she is putting down most of the people on this board who have choppers, which I think quite a few have. Also, I would like to see if she could even assemble a kit bike from Custom Chrome, let alone build a Mutant Buell chopper. It is one thing to not like the chopping up of Buells, but it is another to put everyone that rides a chopper into a class of wannabes and drunks. I am done with this post, her simple minded ignorant views are not worth my time. I am just glad that I am able to accept people for who and what they are not the material items they have. |

I feel sorry for anyone that uses the term 'wannabe' so much. Someone so obsessed with determining who is/isn't a 'wannabe' or a 'real biker' must have been in some way repeatedly violated by some clever 'wannabe' posing as a burly 'real biker.' |

Nice try at bashing BuellGrrrl biker boys... but no score. I'm used to being ignored at HD stores and by "bikers" in general, so why should I give a damn if you love or hate me. As for your attempts to pigeaonhole me as just another mechanically inept pillion popsy... well I just put the heads back on the GS today, I've rebuilt a few engines, and putting a bike together don't look that hard- I just haven't crashed one bad yet and the frame on my Cyclone works just fine, thank you. So biker boys, sorry that I've made you so insecure... |

Buellgrrrl, why don't you quit calling people names and just explain how you can pinpoint a persons life by what they ride so accurately... I just don't get how you can group all these chopper riders as wannabees and all these other Buellers as biker-boys because they don't agree with you..Are you only a cool stand up rider, and good person if Buellgrrrl deems it so? The people you are arguing with on this board are good guys...and great friends to a lot of people...Stop judging people from the outside, and you might just find this out. Larry |
