I do have an attitude with all the cretins that blame God for every natural or even man made disaster. ( I assume they are cretins ) Even more annoying are the ones that say that a disaster is God's revenge on so & so. The meteorite that killed the dinosaurs was God's judgment on them? why? oral sex? I believe Mayor Nagin wants a democratic majority to re elect him. He won't be if the hispanic vote is large. So, racist? Nah, just political prostitute. |

As a resident of the Mississippi gulf coast... It is a terrible thing that happened to Nawlins. Graft and corruption manifested in sub-standard levees failing and flooding the city-NOT the hurricane. The city is still there. My gripe is that a pinhead like Nagin gets tons of press... A question for ya'll in other parts of the country-How much coverage have you seen of the TOTAL DEVASTATION that stretches 90 miles from N'O' to Mobile.Entire cities are GONE.I'm fine, still have my bike and a place to live. But we still have people living in tents! Any Badwebbers who have helped in the relief effort,THANK YOU! My needs are met.But there are thousands here that still have nothing. The reason you don't hear about them is that they are determined people who do their best to take care of themselves and each other with whatever they've got to work with. You know what REALLY sucks...I love Nawlins... Like Fats said "Ain't it a shame?" End of rant. Thanks for the podium. |

Hey guys, it's still BELOW F***ING SEA LEVEL! S*REW Chocolate, invite the FISH back to New Orleans. Send the people - chocolate or otherwise to high ground! We'll be back to having these discussions about this again in our lifetimes because water STILL flows downhill and seeks its own level. |

No coverage of anything other than the racist mayor, crowds of people getting shot at by random gunmen, and the occasional Katrina relief scam. The media appears to be doing its level best to make rebuilding New Orleans sound like a wasted effort. |

Amazing how obsessed angry white guys can get with every word of a black big city mayor... Funny... Denver has a population that is less than 8% black. We had a black mayor for 12 years. You never saw him make the news like Nagin because he wasn't a racist idiot like Nagin. Don't assume we're angry with him because of differences in our skin color. That would be an unfair racist generalization. |

Hey Gregory- Our church is organizing a releif effort to come down to Slidell to help out next month. I got to the point where I was tired of hearing all of the people blaming everyone but the people of New Orleans for their problems so I decided not to come. I was thinking that the people of Mississippi have just buckled down and got to work. Do you know of any groups there looking for help? I would much rather come help them out. |

Greg- I got your mail but I thought that we could make this a public discussion too. If there is interest we could make a new thread about it. Were you affected personally? I could see us getting some other fellow Buellers to help out. Our church was coordinating the work through another Lutheran church in Slidell. They had turned classrooms into dorms and had showers installed. They supplied food so that all we had to do was to come down and help. If you know of a local church coordinating things that would help. It is much easier to come knowing that a lot of time wouldn't be spent getting organized. I have to wait to see what happens with our union contract (expires 2/28) before I can make firm plans. We were told that we couldn't take any vacation until the issue is resolved. I would like to do something one of the first 2 full weeks in March. |

Good Morning Mike! Don't you just love life's little "coincidences"? Christus Victor Lutheran Church right here in Ocean Springs is a major center for Lutheran Disaster Response.Their # is 228-875-2446. They're set up with lodging, etc. and certainly know where the help needs to go. Personally,I'm o.k. and didn't suffer any material losses.I'm just a low budget renter, not a property owner. The water stopped about 200 yards down the street from my shed-oops,the landlord says it's a cottage-and the location where I keep the bike didn't flood either. This is the only time I've evacuated since moving here in'76.I was all set to watch MotoGP on Speed that Sunday afternoon. Then I got one of those "feelings",loaded the car,and headed for Birmingham.I'd been wanting to go to the Barber Museum since it opened.I spent the day of the disaster in MOTORCYCLE HEAVEN! Go figure. Blake, can or should this be moved to a new thread? Katrina Recovery? Anyone who wants to help in any way can pm me and I will put you in touch with legitimate folks helping legitimate victims. Thanks,ya'll.and God Bless. |

I'm shocked. My comment remarking that the mayor has made a racial comment is deleted. Mayor's comment = free speech. Discussion of mayor's comment = free speech. My identification of mayor's comment as racist = hate speech. Good work as usual, Blake. Didn't I meet you in a previous life - Salem 1692? |
