Not exactly bike related, but I thought someone on here might know about this: If I buy a used car/bike in a state other than California that is not up to California Emission standards, can I ever register it in California? I ask because my girlfriend wants a diesel car, but you cannot buy them in California right now and she is going to be moving back to CA in the fall. Thanks! |

Check the California DMV site, should have it. I would guess not, but not sure. |

The regs have a specific minimum mileage for import. There also used to be an "environmental impact fee". But that was several years ago and may have changed since I lived there. |

If purchased new you need at least 7,500 miles on it first. If used it's OK...John |

If you purchased it less than 12 months ago, you'll pay a penalty tax. I bought my Nissan Altima 10 months before moving unexpectedly to California and they charged me $1850.00 to register it. My wife's Hyundai Accent was five months older than mine and only cost $180.00. California sucks. Commie bastards. |
